StatTiger 3,153
From 2000-2001, Coach John Lovett's defense faced 10 opponents that averaged over 400-yards per game on offense (434.9). In those contests, Auburn's defense held the opponent to 423.4 yards per game, posting a 5-5 record. From 2002-2004, Coacg Gene Chizik's defense faced 9 opponents that averaged over 400-yards per game on offense (424.0). In those contests, Auburn's defense held the opponent to an average of 331.8 yards per game, posting a 4-5 record. Auburn did not face any opponents that averaged over 400 yards in 2005. They did face Wisconsin (396), giving up 548 yards to the Badgers and Georgia (391), surrendering 446 yards against the Dogs with David Gibbs as the Auburn DC. Under Coach Muschamp, the Auburn Tigers have faced 8 oponents that averaged over 400-yards in total offense (432.5). The Auburn defense allowed 318.3 yards per game, posting a 6-2 record. Not bad considering how poor the offense has performed over the past two seasons.

subterranean_jack 112
Tuberville had better make Muschamp assistant head coach and make sure he gets a big raise, otherwise Muschamp is going to take a head coaching gig at some place like Ga Tech. I'm shocked Ole Miss did not consider him. Auburn's defense was good under Chizik and Gibbs. It has been dominant under Muschamps. Can you imagine how good the defense will be once the players Muschamps has recruited see the field every down?
IslandTiger 0
I like coach Muschamp, he is very intense. Intensity doesn't dictate worth in terms of salary-results do. The results are why Muschamp is deserving. With this being said, I also love his display of intensity/passion and think it's a trait that all Head Coaches/Coordinators should possess. On the other hand CTT's intensity, which at full blast might not get so much as a shhh from a lifer-librarian, shouldn't be held against him because his results indicate his passion for the game and ability to motivate differently.
