Nordstrom coming to the Riverchase Galleria

Posted by Birmingham News business staff November 30, 2007 11:12 AM

Nordstrom, the Seattle-based fashion retailer known for its gold-standard customer service and extensive shoe selection, will open its first Alabama store at the Riverchase Galleria in 2012, officals said today.

"We've been looking for the right opportunity to open a store in the Birmingham area for years," said Erik Nordstrom, president of stores for Nordstrom. "We're eager to serve Alabama customers who already know us and to build relationships with those who are experiencing Nordstrom for the first time."

The chain currently operates 157 stores in 28 states, including five in the Atlanta area, the nearest locations to Birmingham.

Nordstrom offers clothing from designers such as Versace and Hugo Boss and shoes from brands including Manolo Blahnik and Michael Kors. It also offers moderately priced fashion under its own labels.

The Galleria is the state's busiest retail venue, with 12 million shoppers a year. The 143,000-square-foot Nordstrom store will open in the original Macy's location in the mall.

But why in the world is it taking 4yrs? Is 2012 a misprint?
