MOVING TO MEMPHIS AREA

I will be moving to the Memphis area in a few months and will finally have the chance to attend an :au: game again. I am not sure if I will be able to make it to Auburn for a home game but I am at least hoping to make it to the :msu: , :om: , or :vandy: game. Of these three which venue is the better choice. If tickets are available I will be bringing my wife and three daughters so I have to take that into consideration. Since I joined the military 17 years ago I have only had the chance to attend two :au: games. I saw :au: beat Army and lose to Michigan (?) in Shreveport.

Ole Miss-the groove, and Oxford is a pretty good town

Nashville is a fun time, but there will be more Auburn people in Vandy's stadium than Vandy fans

I would HIGHLY recommend the Vanderbilt game. I have been to two or three Auburn vs. Vanderbilt games in my time and it is always enjoyable. Tickets are pretty easy to come by and more than likely there will be a 60-40 auburn fan advantage, so its most like a home game. Plus the Vandy fans I have met are always very nice, even if you're dressed in the other teams colors. Also, the restaurants in Nashville are fantastic. If you decide to go you have to try Rotiers and the Pancake Pantry. The Ginger cream at Pancake pantry is the single best food item I have ever tried.

The other two you mentioned, Ole Miss and Mississippi State each have drawbacks. Ole Miss has a small stadium and, to be honest, Rebel fans aren't the best fans. State would be my last choice. Starkville is really a non-descript college town and as much as people joke about Auburn being a cow college, let's be honest, State fans ring cow bells in support of their team.

So, in summary, go with the Vanderbilt game!

P.S. If you decide to go with the Mississppi State game, let me know. My family will be tailgating at that game and you're welcome to come.

I live in Memphis so I'm a little biased toward Ole Miss due to both the proximity of Oxford in relation to Memphis and the fact that my wife played soccer at Ole Miss. Many AU fans will stay and gamble in Tunica and then drive to Oxford for the game. A bunch of fraternity brothers from my AU days will drive/fly in and make it a fun Memphis/Tunica/Oxford weekend. It does stink when the game is a JP/Lincoln Financial/Name Your Sponsor televised game but the atmosphere in Oxford is nice with the Grove and all. Good luck choosing and welcome to the Home of the Blues.

To bad their first game could not be :au: -VS- :uga: but of the ones you posted :au: -VS- :om: i think that will be a good game with huston nutt coaching for ole-miss.

I'm with TigerinGraceland on this one. Just because of the proximity to Memphis, I think that Oxford is the best place to go. It's the epitome of small-town Southern college atmosphere and there are some really great places to eat. Two words for you.....CITY GROCERY!

The only drawback to Oxford, IMHO, are the fans. They will berate you constantly. I've been to LSU expecting the worst, but was never treated worse than at Oxford. It's not been for the faint of heart. They still hold a grudge about CTT, but when you bring that to their attention, they swear it's not that. We all know the truth....

Nashville is a GREAT town and I've never had a bad time there. Vandy fans are really nice and very accomodating, but I'm just more comfortable in a small town setting. Just my thoughts.

NASHVILLE NASHVILLE NASHVILLE! Dude you can't beat this city! I have lived here for 3 years, and can't FREAKING WAIT till the Auburn/Vandy game. There is so much to do for you and your entire family. If you were going with some buddies, then I might say Oxford, b/c of Tunica and all the fun that is to be had there, but their fans do SUCK.

If you want to go to one of the crappiest places on earth (besides Tuscaloosa...and I'm not even joking) then go to Starkville. That place is a DUMP! The restaurants, bars, fans are terrible! Also, their stadium is a piece of garbage, and they WILL TAKE YOUR WHISKEY! A-holes!

Anyway, Memphis is a cool town.......Congrats on being back in the South!

I can't really add anything to the comments already posted, so I'll just say congrats on moving to one of the best BBQ cities in the world.

Why'd you have to say that? Now I want some Rendezvous.

Rendezvous is okay if you like dry ribs. But it's a tourist trap. Blues City Cafe has some of the best wet ribs in Memphis, IMHO. And it's right on Beale Street. Now, if you're lookin' for some GREAT BBQ, you'll have to go into the more questionable parts of town. And there are PLENTY questionable parts of town. Just my 2 cents.

With that being said, what part of town are you moving to, Fuzzy?

Much more BBQ talk and we'll be moved to another forum!

Buy Vandy Season tickets. They are only 99 bucks for 6 games and that includes the AU game as well. You can sell the others on stubhub. Also Comissary BBque in Germantown is my favorite in memphis. I'm a Memphian and live in the Cordova area. -Welcome to Memphis!

As :homer: would say, "Mmmmmmmmmmmm, BBQ." Interstate BBQ is outstanding and it's not TOO questionable (just a tad bit sketchy) of an area. I never have been that big on Corky's but do agree that Commissary is good. Trying to park there stinks, though. I was also a big fan of the Carolina style BBQ when I taught at Clemson.
