"how does a man with 5 military deferments(Dick Cheney) end up as Sec of Defense"

"Pres. Bush say one of the problems with Vietnam was that we left to early, why didn't he get his butt over there to help us out"

"the fence they are building to keep people out may be the fence that ends up keeping you in"

You do realize you are quoting Jessie Ventura don't you? Then again, I guess it should not surprise me.

While I respect Mr. Ventura's military service (he was a UDT that later merged into the current SEAL teams), if I remember correctly, he never saw combat even though he served during the Vietnam Era. So he really has no room to talk about Bush's lack of service in Vietnam.

Back in 2000, there was a lot of controversy because Ventura always referred to himself as an ex-SEAL when he actually was a UDT member. Later on in the early 80's, long after Ventura's service was over, the UDT and SEAL programs merged into the current SEAL training (BUDs) and program. When that merger happened, it was accepted that former UDT members could also be called SEALs. The issue with Ventura was the he said he was a SEAL in Vietnam when he was actually a UDT during that time, not a SEAL. Ventura had even claimed to had seen some sort of covert combat in Vietnam. but that was later exposed as a lie by his ex-CO from his UDT unit. Ventura then backed off that story when it was later revealed that he never saw combat in Vietnam at all. An ex-CO and some other UDT guys he served with do not even remember Ventura ever leaving the Philippines during his UDT's deployment there.

The whole "I was a SEAL" because UDT and SEALs later merged into the same thing is not an issue for me and I thought too much was made of that. UDTs were still pretty tough dudes with the training they went through also. For example, I know , and served with a couple, of older Army vets who were LRRPs (Long Range Recon Patrol) in Vietnam, but that title does not exist now. However, those guys are now considered Rangers because they did a lot of things, and even more in a lot cases, that Rangers did. They only difference back then was that they had a LRRP tab instead of a Ranger tab at the time. The fact that Ventura tried to mislead about his combat experience and then he turns around and bashes Bush for the lack of his, I do have a big issue with.

arnold, I suggest before you start quoting somebody, you might want to make sure they are worth quoting. You especially might want to make sure what they say is something solid and can't have holes shot all up in it.

I didn't say he was my hero.He was on Larry King and I thought he had some pretty good observations on some things, like the chicken hawks in Washington(Rumsfeld,Chaney,Wolfawitz,Peerle,Bush,) all being gung-ho for this war without ever had had putting on the uniform.

Based on what people I served with who had been in the Phillipines,I would not have left either.

From Wikipedia:

Rumsfeld served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1957 as a naval aviator and flight instructor.

And we all know Bush's uniform don't count cause it was just the Guard.

And I'm sure a Chaney served, just not Dick Cheney.

You mean the same Bush who lost his flight status because he was partying to hard to show up for his flight physical or the one whom nobody in the Alabama Guard remembers.

Lost his flight status on a plane which was being phased out and no longer used ? Wow. How terrible.

You and Dan Rather must be good buddies.

Please point out some more proven bogus stories from CBS and keep quoting irrelevant people. I am sure the other liberals on the board like Tex and Al appreciate your helping the cause.:lol:
