I was sitting here today thinking or what all of our previous presidents were doing when they were elected President of the United States. I got to Nixon when I realized that none of them were members of Congress when they were elected. So that made me wonder when the last member of Congress that was elected to the Oval Office, so I looked it up and it was...

Also, here are the only US presidents to have been sitting members of Congress that went straight from Congress to the White House:

William Harrison

Franklin Pierce

James Garfield

Benjamin Harrison

Warren Harding

John Kennedy

Another interesting thing to note is that James Garfield was the only sitting member from the House to ever get elected. All others were Senators when they were elected.

I see Obama as a Senator and apparently our resident Obamaphile only sees him as a "non-white" man. It must be true since he seems bent on pointing that out to us any chance he gets.

FYI for any other clueless people...the thread was about all three final candidates because of the fact they are all members of Congress....not because of their skin color.

Well cosidering our opposing points of view on almost every single issue, I doubt my post did anything to change your opinion one way or the other - not like I really care.
