Mac hater changes his tune

Given the talk lately on this subject I thought this was interesting, mainly because of how immersed in Windows this guy was and his antipathy toward Mac products before he did this little experiment:

Mac: After two months of Mac, here's why I switched

When I started this blog two months ago I began recording my initial thoughts on obtaining a Mac. While I am not a card carrying Mac fanboy (it does have issues like any piece of technology), I wanted to try and summarize why I like the Mac so much now that I've been using it heavily for the last two months.

I have been a Windows user and software developer since 1992, and a DOS user and developer since 1984. I used to hate Macs and as recently as 9 months ago my avatar on one of my forums was John Hodgman (the PC guy from the Mac ads).

Now I really enjoy using my Mac and am drifting away from Windows as a platform. Here's why:

He goes on to say that he doesn't hate his Vista or Ubuntu machines, but he just doesn't use them much anymore.

Good Article. Just a few things I noticed. Disk Utility is not the prettiest app in the world but it is wonderful. I use it on a regular basis. 1) I like the fact that I can verify and repair disk permissions. 2) When maintaining a large scale cluster of Mac's you can use this utility to create a disk image of all your compute/work nodes and your head nodes.

We create a disk image using Disk Utility and then push it out using the Netboot Utility that comes with server if we are building multiple machines at once. If one simply wants to put an image on a drive , pop in the drive and go to restore, drag the image over to your source and then the drive you want to image over to your destination and click. It doesn't get much simpler than that. (not that the author was bashing it's functionality)

I would rather use Opera than I had Safari, but that is more of a preference than anything else. I just like some of the options in Opera better.

I used to hate Apple and everything about them (and I still have my beefs with them) but over time I have come to like them better than anything else. The command line is the main point for me. Since I do admin work I love the fact that I can feel at home. Simply put, they just work!

Once again I state that I have issues with all HW and SW vendors. They all have their problems, you just have to look at the minimum issues and the one that you are most comfortable with.
