Lunch in Auburn

This is more baseball related, but I am putting it here so I get more responses.

I don't get down to Auburn too much anymore, but will down there for the baseball game tomorrow (Saturday).

Where is a good place for my 10 year old son and I to catch some lunch around campus before the game? I know there is a couple of good BBQ joints I have eaten out before, but I can't remember their names.

You can't go wrong with CheeBurger in my opinion, great place to get a cheeseburger and a milkshake for a 10 yr old. There is also that BBQ place when you first come by the tracks on N College, (Mike and Ed's I think or something like that) but I can't remember the name of it and another BBQ, down on S College but I can't remember the name of it either (BBQ House?). I haven't been down in a while. Usually during football season we either tail-gate or grab a BBQ "sammich" outside the stadium so I can't really be of much help. Those are just the ones that I know of off the top of my head. Some of the guys on campus should be able to help you out though.

It is BBQ House on S. College. It was my favorite when I was in school.

I just drove by it today on the way to my 10 year Vet School Reunion. I was last in Auburn about 3 years ago for a football game but didn't spend much time doing anything but getting to the game and back out. I was here for my 5 yr reunion prior and it is amazing how much things have changed in 5 years. 10 years it's even more surprising and we won't even talk about since the beginning of undergrad.

If you can wait 11 years, go to Momma Goldbergs and share a pitcher. B) The place will probably still be the same. Last time I was there, same broken furniture as when I was in school.

I think Byron's has good BBQ. Im assuming they are open on Sat.

And there's always Momma G's.

Traditional Auburn places:

BBQ House; Momma G's; Amsterdam Cafe (Gay and Thach); Buffalo Connection (Wire and Shug/University); Byrons (not my preference though, but I am biased towards BBQ House)

I think BBQ House is the place I have eaten at before and loved it. I also have heard a lot about Momma G's. Where is it at and what type of food do they serve?

We will be leaving in about an hour, hoping the game is not going to be rained out.

All the places mentioned above are good although Byrons is a good walk from campus. If you want pizza, go the the Mellow Mushroom on College St. just down from Toomers or you can sit outside at a place (forgot name) on Gay St. just off the intersection with Glenn.

Mama G's is at the corner of Mag and Donahue...

It is sandwiches... It should be a good place for your kid... They also have a new one that is on Thatch right past the gay street intersection. Going away from campus on the left. That might be less crowded.

I don't get the love for the bbq house. Their sauce tastes like a mixture between mustard and bile. Mike and Ed's, Byron's, and Papa Joe's in Opelika destroy the bbq house.

Well, we did not make as good as time as I was hoping on our way down there because of a wreck right outside of B'ham and I also got about a 45 minute later start then I planned on. We arrived about 1:45 and so we had McDonalds instead. We did park at the intersection of College and Magnolia and walked around for a few minutes after we ate so I had a better idea of where everything is for next time. Of all the times I had been to Auburn for football games, I never really had taken the time to walk around town. It was usually a get to the game, watch Tiger Walk, get into the stadium, watch the game, and then leave with nothing really in between. That will change from now on.

Nail on the head...........I will add BBQ House has the best breakfast within a 200 mile radius for sure.

they do have a good breakfast, i'll give them that. But Byron's breakfast is equally good if not better (their bacon is unbelievable)

Yep I go for Guthrie's too... even though i have eaten at the Guthries chain in the hoover area and a close second to Zaxby's There is still nothing like AUBURN's Guthrie's. I guess just being in Auburn makes it taste better.

Guthrie's would be good if they had ranch dressing. Who in their right mind serves chicken fingers with no ranch dressing!

 Well, like I said, I had a 10 year old with me. He was kind of in a hurry to get to the stadium, so he had no patience to sit down and eat. Since we also only had about only an hour until game time when we got there, I wanted to make sure we had time to walk around campus before the game. I have to negate any bammer influence my son's mother (yes I was married to a bammer at one time) and stepfather have on him, so because of the time constraint I had to decide between good food or making sure my son's first trip to Auburn showed how much more beautiful our campus was to that one in Tuscalooser.
