Titan and others...how hard is it to upgrade memory?

Recommended Posts

I am a MacBookPro and want to upgrade my memory

Is that difficult? I literally know nothing about the inside of a computer other than my keyboard, screen, and mouse pad

Expensive?

Hard to do?

MBPs are pretty much like every other lappy in the world. There is door on the bottom, unscrew the cover and if there is an open port you can put whatever style mem stick it takes in there. Put the cover back on, fire it back up, and enjoy. They are no more picky about the brand of RAM than any other Intel based computer, but buy something that has good reviews from Mac users. Newegg has a nice little memory configuration selector that will show you the RAM they have that will fit in you MBP. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductConfi...%2DConfigurator

Some instructions from somewhere else never hurt, along with a video.

In short, its not that hard at all to add memory. :)

I would suggest using crucial.com for your memory. It's as good as it gets and they are usually very reasonable.

I've used OtherWorldComputing.com for Mac memory. They are usually cheaper and have a great reputation in the Mac world for product and service.

I wasn't sure whether you had the Core Duo or Core 2 Duo version, but that page will let you choose either.

Even if you maxed out the RAM with 4 gigs on a Core 2 Duo, you're talking about $90 for the OWC brand. How much RAM do you have now?

You prolly only had 512MB. For some inexplicable reason, Apple only shipped the early MacBooks and MacBook Pros with that much I think.

You'll think you have a new computer after that upgrade.

I almost ordered 2

Could I have installed 2 gigs with my Core Duo or would I have needed the Core 2 Duo?

The Core Duo MBP can hold up to 2GB:

You have two slots that can each hold a 1 GB stick. For best performance, you actually should get two matching 1 GB sticks rather than using a 512MB stick in one slot and a 1 GB in the other.

Tell me how much RAM you have now and if both slots are filled.

Oh, please... Why do you think Bill Gates has a such a guarded compound? His favorite computer is a Mac.

The only things that don't do well on Macs are games, which I find incredible since nearly every graphic design company in the US uses them. Our company (we do newsletters) went through all kinds of drama before being sold. The only thing that really ticked everyone in the building off was giving up our Macs.

Relax. It's just a little pin prick........

No kidding. I like my Mac a lot, a lot better than my PC. But this whole 'Macs Sux' and 'PC Sux' stupidity has got to stop. It's really a stupid, pointless argument that people keep rehashing over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Actually, I wasn't really saying "PCs suck." I was saying that Sony PCs suck. They used to make really good ones, but the quality has gone down dramatically the last few years. If I was in the market for a Wintendo laptop, I'd look at Lenovo, Gateway, Acer or Toshiba.

And for the record, it wasn't really one of those kinds of threads until this post appeared. :)

Hey. He asked for help with his memory. I pointed him to a page where he could enhance his memory. Why can't you remember? It was only a few posts back? Is your memory too small also?

Does the same go for powerbooks? I'm assuming it's different since it's not an intel processor. I've been thinking about upgrading for a while. I just do too much stuff on here for what I have.

It shouldn't be hard to upgrade in a PowerBook, but since it uses an older style of memory that's not used as much, it will likely be more expensive.
