World's scariest runways.

And how in the world are 2 of them from the US? Sounds a little biased to me. Let's see. You can fly into a mountain airport or you can fly into Reagan. Uhh. I choose the mountain airport. It's less scary???

SCARY

I've flown into both Kennedy and the one in St. Maarten. Kennedy, I have to admit, spooked me when, during one approach, we had a jetliner fly within what seemed to be 2,000 feet of us. I mentioned it to the guy beside me on the seat. A New Yorker, he was pretty casual about it, saying that it's like threading the needle between LaGuardia and Newark.

However, the one I'm surprised that's not mentioned is Wellington, New Zealand. Not only do you have very windy conditions, but you have a really short runway, too, that practically sits out in the harbor. In fact, the airline I flew had special cowlings on the engine that would flip back during landing over the jet blast to act as an airbrake. Of course, if you've never seen that before, you're thinking the engine is coming apart and are saying the Lord's Prayer really damned fast.

There are several scary airports in Alaska. Surrounded by mountains, bordered by water, short runways, high winds and wildlife wandering around and across the runway.
