The Boss is on board

Dear Friends and Fans:

LIke most of you, I've been following the campaign and I have now seen and heard enough to know where I stand. Senator Obama, in my view, is head and shoulders above the rest.

He has the depth, the reflectiveness, and the resilience to be our next President. He speaks to the America I've envisioned in my music for the past 35 years, a generous nation with a citizenry willing to tackle nuanced and complex problems, a country that's interested in its collective destiny and in the potential of its gathered spirit. A place where "...nobody crowds you, and nobody goes it alone."

At the moment, critics have tried to diminish Senator Obama through the exaggeration of certain of his comments and relationships. While these matters are worthy of some discussion, they have been ripped out of the context and fabric of the man's life and vision, so well described in his excellent book, Dreams of My Father, often in order to distract us from discussing the real issues: war and peace, the fight for economic and racial justice, reaffirming our Constitution, and the protection and enhancement of our environment.

After the terrible damage done over the past eight years, a great American reclamation project needs to be undertaken. I believe that Senator Obama is the best candidate to lead that project and to lead us into the 21st Century with a renewed sense of moral purpose and of ourselves as Americans.

Over here on E Street, we're proud to support Obama for President.

Wow, a celebrity endorses a democrat....this just in, fire burns.

That would be the most coveted of all celebrity endorsements. <_<

And yet another reason for rr to wet his pants and dance like a little Pekingese/Pomeranian mixed breed.

Yeah, I was undecided before, but now that the boss is on board, I might have to drift towards Obama. ANYWAYS...I thought the endorsement was pretty well crafted and shows the depth of this "typical celebrity"

While we are talking about celebrities...

Toby Keith likes the Democrats

http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20191564,00.html

Despite Toby Keith's past public support of President George W. Bush and his famous post-Sept.11 song, "The Angry American (Courtesy of the Red White and Blue)," this year the country star says things have changed.

Keith, who in the past has said he's a Democrat but was unhappy with the party's candidates, now can support the current contenders for the nomination.

"I'm real happy that there are two candidates that people can get behind," he told PEOPLE at the CMT awards Monday. "I feel like there are two people now – with Hillary [Clinton] and the time she's spent," he said of the former first lady and current New York senator.

Of Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, he said, "Obama looks like a great speaker and a great leader. And I think you can learn on your feet in there, so I don't hold people responsible for not having a whole bunch of political background in the House and Senate."

But Keith is keeping an open mind about the election. "I think [John] McCain is a great option too. I think we've got three great candidates running."

Asked if he has decided yet who he'll support, he said: "Not yet. I'm still waiting and listening. I wish one of the two Democrats would get behind the other one and show us what we've got, but right now it's early in the game."

Whoever the nominee is, Keith, who has performed 100 shows with the USO tour, is clear about at least one priority. "I think everybody just needs to support our troops. That's all I tried to do," he said." If I ever did anything wrong, it was just in support of our troops."

Yeah. Don't you love entertainers who lead really decadent lifestyles, boff supermodels by the truckloads, make gazillions of dollars playing to packed stadiums, have an entourage to cater to their every whim, and then claim to speak for the common man? Right.

Yeah, celebrities are usually so in touch with my lifestyle that who they vote for means something to me.

I have to give Tiger Woods props. He has refused to comment when he was asked who he supported. He said during an interview that he does not want somebody's vote influenced by what he says just because of who he is. He said just because he is a sports star does not make his opinion any more important or educated then other voters.

The concern he expressed is exactly the problem with many celebrity endorsements. They think just because of their status, that their opinion is more important then the rest of us and we should follow their lead. Too many mistake their popularity as meaning we give a crap about their political views. Sorry Bruce, you are popular because of your music, not because of your politics. Sorry, Sly, you are popular because people like to see you blow things up, not who you vote for.

Alice Cooper, a shock rocker back in the old days and now a fan of President Bush, says rock stars who've jumped on the John Kerry bandwagon -- Sheryl Crow, Dave Matthews, James Taylor and Bruce Springsteen among them -- are treasonous morons.

"To me, that's treason. I call it treason against rock-and-roll, because rock is the antithesis of politics. Rock should never be in bed with politics," the 56-year-old told the Canadian Press news service as he embarked last week on a 15-city Canadian tour.

(as true then as it is today )

Anybody who gets their political opinions from a singer, musician, actor, or other entertainer is pretty much a halfwit.

What about that great thespian Ronald Reagan

He put his money where his mouth was. He actually ran for office.

I don't personally put any weight into a "celebrity" endorsement, and find most celebrities who speak out politically to be minimally informed, regardless of party. That said, Springsteen does seem to be highly regarded by many working class folks in New Jersey where he continues to live and I'd rather have him endorse me instead of my opponent if I were a candidate.
