Titan, unfortunately the usual safe places are starting to become unsafe. It will only stop when our justice system stop slapping the wrists of violent criminals. I could rant on all day about that.

It is really confusing for us students. Some who have been here awhile, like myself, are confused about it, because Auburn has been safer than my actual home town, so I've treated it like home. It's really confusing for the freshman, because all they hear about Auburn is how safe it is, and the family atmosphere, and they lived it for a while. And now within the past 2 months 2 violent crimes have occurred right here, close to and on campus, and it's freaking them out. All I can tell the freshman I know is to be safe and to let people know where you're going and where you've been, and heck, we kept up the buddy system for the first couple of weeks after what happened earlier...

It's just really, really weird, and it's something none of us are used to...

Has the City or the University beefed up security/police presence at all?

At the baseball game Saturday, it seemed like every time I turned around while on campus or in town, I saw a cruiser going by. I don't know if that is just a weekend thing or if it is like that all the time.

This calmed me down. Auburn released at Auburn.edu that it was a room mate dispute. The person who stabbed the other guy was not an Auburn student. It was not a random thing, or something like that. It was a room mate dispute. I don't feel like that makes campus more unsafe.

Get your stuff and get out now. I saw the way you looked at Kip. As if everyone couldn't tell something was going on between you two. And take that stupid dog, Fluffem's with you. I hate you and never want to see you again.

Shut your mouth and don't call Fluffem's stupid. Come here Fluffem's baby, sweetie, posha-boo-boo...WAIT, what are you doing? Put that carrot peeler down...Ooowwww, that hurt, ow, stop it, quit...oops, there goes my loafer.

Good to hear this was not some random act. Not that it makes the act any less violent, especially to the person who was stabbed.

It does not matter if it was off campus, it was close enough to affect campus and could not be ignored, so kudos for AU admin in issuing the alert.

I love how some people freak out prematurely...Yeah, Auburn.... the NEW Detroit.

Give me a break people.

SERIOUSLY. I mean, welcome to the real world people. Things happen, even in Auburn. Shocker, I know. What's next, AU Alerts for traffic tickets?

That's what I was thinking. Two in two months does not a pattern make.

No it doesn't. Several years ago, two chinese students were murdered in their apartment across the street from the Episcopal church, never found that murderer. A college student was shot in the head in his house after 5 local boys (who I unfortunately taught in Jr. High) botched a burglary. So it is not uncommon for this to happen but rare. It has been a few years that these 2 incidents have happened. Auburn is a big school, the area is the 7th fastest growing area in the country and we are bulging at the seams. So the crime rate tends to climb when the population grows. If you ever read the police blotter in the OA news, it is almost a whole page sometimes. Burglaries abound at the apartment complexes. I hate that any of this has happened to our lovely town.

Police Cruisers are more in number now and I see them everywhere. I have lived here over 19 years and went to school here, I still feel safe!

When I lived in Detroit....I feared for my life going to and from work every night in downtown Detroit (Comerica Field)...it was insane

And....I am from New Orleans....murder rate leader in the US....that says something when another city scares me

Coming to CBS this fall. CSI Auburn, starring Danny Devito as Captain Dick Masters.

In the blockbuster first episode, Masters and the Maytag repairman are having coffee when the call comes in...

"Captain Masters, you need to get over to the Pike House ASAP"

"What is it, someone murdered?"

"Uh, No. Keg party just cranked up and the wet t-shirt contest between the I Felta Thi's and the Psi Psi Psi's starts in 20 minutes"

"Roger that headquarters. Captain Masters is on his way."

Are the freshmen still wide-eyed and wondering if Auburn is the safe haven they thought it to be?

<_< wow... is that a serious thought?

Read the post above this one from Esquire and think to yourself:

"Self, is Esquire being serious?"

Hey Greta, this happened OFF campus... at the Edge apartments. :)

True it is off campus, but you can spit on campus from the Edge.

I wouldn't consider the Edge to be that close to campus, Edge West maybe which is on Old Row, but The Edge is down by Loco's.

ha i understand the feeling of over-protectiveness, but i'd say someone getting stabbed, as isolated as it may be -- is far different from a traffic violation -- if we live in a world where a stabbing can even be compared to that --- then wow, stab me now because i dont want to be a part of it. While the alerts do kind of amplify the situation more times than not, it's necessary that students know someone capable of causing harm to them if confronted is on the loose. awareness, as vague as it may be, helps prevent the situation from spreading further out into the community.

I'm surprised you aren't complaining about this being in the Football Forum and that it has not been moved.
