A Hamas problem for Obama?

by Mosheh Oinounou

While Sen. Barack Obama sought to improve his relationship with the Jewish community today by meeting with leaders Philadelphia, comments by a Hamas political adviser this weekend could potentially hurt the Democratic presidential candidate.

During an interview on WABC radio Sunday, top Hamas political adviser Ahmed Yousef said the terrorist group supports Obama’s foreign policy vision.

“We don’t mind–actually we like Mr. Obama. We hope he will (win) the election and I do believe he is like John Kennedy, great man with great principle, and he has a vision to change America to make it in a position to lead the world community but not with domination and arrogance,” Yousef said in response to a question about the group’s willingness to meet with either of the Democratic presidential candidates.

For his part, Obama criticized former President Jimmy Carter’s decision to meet with Hamas, telling Jewish leaders Wednesday that “Hamas is not a state, Hamas is a terrorist organization.”

“We must not negotiate with a terrorist group intent on Israel’s destruction,” Obama said. “We should only sit down with Hamas if they renounce terrorism, recognize Israel’s right to exist, and abide by past agreements.”

While the IL Democrat has condemned Hamas, an endorsement from a top leader in the group is probably the last thing Obama needs right now.

For the record, the Hamas foreign policy vision, includes the following highlights qupted directly from their Charter:

# 1 Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it."

# 2 "The Islamic Resistance Movement believes that the land of Palestine is an Islamic Waqf consecrated for future Moslem generations until Judgement Day. It, or any part of it, should not be squandered: it, or any part of it, should not be given up. "

# 3 "There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavors."

# 4 "After Palestine, the Zionists aspire to expand from the Nile to the Euphrates. When they will have digested the region they overtook, they will aspire to further expansion, and so on. Their plan is embodied in the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion", and their present conduct is the best proof of what we are saying."

I think it would be a great idea for Senator Obama to address these items, particularly #3 --before he makes a plan to engage in any negotiation's (with no preconditions) with the group, like fellow Democrat and ex-President Carter?

Four things:

1. “We should only sit down with Hamas if they renounce terrorism, recognize Israel’s right to exist, and abide by past agreements.” -- Barack Obama (from your own article above)

2. I don't recall him ever saying he'd engage in negotiations with Hamas.

3. Carter is an idiot.

4. Where do you get this stuff?

Fox News - enough said.

If my memory recalls, I think his soon-to-be-famous right wing art is saved to his desktop...or taped to the ceiling above his bed.

He has also said he would negotiate with rogue and terrorists countries with no preconditions.)

2. I don't recall him ever saying he'd engage in negotiations with Hamas. (No he said he wouldn't while they advocated the destruction of Israel. He has said he would negotiate with rogue and terrorists countries with no preconditions.)

3. Carter is an idiot. (Agreed)

4. Where do you get this stuff? (It's all linked for your convenience.)

I think it would presumably happen when they "renounce terrorism, recognize Israel's right to exist and abide by past agreements." That doesn't sound like meeting them with no preconditions. He said he'd talk to Iran that way. You deal with each situation individually, not with blanket statements.

4. Where do you get this stuff? (It's all linked for your convenience.)

But you're finding it compiled all neatly somewhere that's making these tenuous connections. You don't even cut and paste fast enough to be doing it all on your own.

Your memory is for $hit. As is the conclusions you jump to. As for pictures on the ceiling that would be your room and your picture of Obama. Are you still using your first Obama blow up doll or are you on the 6th or 7th now?
