autiger4life 3
I swear rankings have changed from who is the best, to who has the best chance of making it to the NC. No way WVU and OSU are the best in the country.
Rhetortiger821 3
I think this poll is terrible. OSU is only got press recognition for being in the most overate conference, and the favorite team of an espn analyst. Ga. LSU and Florida are all top five, and WVU doesnt belong in top ten. cwalter2 0
wvu shouldnt be #1, but we should be top 10... offense is too good and big east defenses wont be able to stop it... if we gt past u guys there is no reason for us not to go undefeted... Ohio St. doesnt play anyone in the big 10. I think southern pigskin rates looking at who they think will be undefeted at the end of the season... tgr4lfe 220
cwalter is right. WVU is going to very good this year, especially offensively. I don't know about the defensive side of the ball. cwalter, how many returning starters does WVU have on D? OSU will be ranked high b/c they will go thru Big 10 with little troubles, but they will have a loss the 3rd week of the season when USC blows their doors off in Cali. I don't know how much stock to put in LSU with a new QB going to have to play. Supporting casts will be good of course, and they lost several to graduation on D. Clemson should be good, this is the year that will break Bowden. If he doesn't have a good year, i.e. BCS bowl, I think he will be gone. All of the others will be very good. cwalter2 0
We lost alot on D... Some for the good to be honest. our 2 CB's sucked for the last to years and they are gone thank God!!! We lost 7 on D... We return a Freshman all american in Scooter Berry on the line... Our Linbackers are the Heart of our D tho... They are fast!!! if we can get some good corners we should be fine. We have a 6'5 safty commin in so we should have someone tall and athletic in the center of our D. The D line is what worries me tho... OSU is going to roll in the big ten... Rod doesnt have his players. Illi lost their RB, Northwestern plz, Penn St. mabey when joe pa leaves, Minn. been a while since i've heard any life from them, Purdue middle of the road every year. and the ones i'm leavin out suck to... lol should we go on and count ND in the big 10 If so Weiss sucks at coaching... The only test for OSU will be aginst USC. I'm a trojan fan that week!!!

I hope the DL is a weakness, that will mean AU will be able to run run run and control the game to keep Mr. White off the field. OSU will get rolled by USC, I will not go so far as to say I will be a trojan fan that day, I loathe USC. Wisconsin may be about the only competition for OSU in the Big 10. You are right the others suck, well I don't know what about Meechegan State? I keed. UM has lost a ton of folks. Good lord, bama, MSU, and ole miss could rule the roost in the Big 10!!! I want to come to Morgantown for the game so bad. I am just too lazy and broke to pay for tickets and make the long trip there from N'ville, TN. quietfan 233
So which SEC team gets to b*%tch-slap OSU in the BCS this year-- , , , or ? In the spirit of sharing, like good little boys & girls, I think it's UGA's or our turn...
mcgufcm 4,109
That has been and will remain a stupid, stupid way to do a poll. Polls are reflective of the CURRENT standings... they are not and should not be predictive. If X is a better team than Y, rank them higher. I don't care what their schedule is. You can adjust the rankings each week based on on-field results. If X got beat, you were wrong about them... drop 'em. If Y blew you away, don't be afraid to boost them over someone else. I hate hate hate preseason polls b/c every just tries to look smart, without trying to accurately reflect what we know (which comes from past performance and practice scouting... it doesn't come from schedule surveying, which is just for the fans). UGA should be in the top 2. OSU shouldn't be in the top five (and that from a huge fan of Beanie Wells, he's very very legit). UF should be up there. LSU should drop a good bit b/c you know they're a team that was propelled by a senior-laden defense. USC should be way up there b/c they have a ton of talent coming back (lots more than OSU). Frankly, WVU should not be in the top five b/c you lost two of three starters in the backfield, your leading receiver, and half the defense plus they have a new head coach plus they've never shown the ability to win consistently (dropping games to teams when they're far more talented). That's what we know about them. I don't care how the schedule sets up. Early rankings aren't about speculation on what might happen; (first off, they shouldn't exist at all but since they do) they should be about what we know right now. ssgaufan 0
The winner of the OSU/USC game will have their ticket to the NC game. The love fest from ESPN will be sickening. And when OSU looses that game, Herbstreit will be making excuses for them, and then offering a reason that they "deserve" to get a rematch with USC in the NC game. Get ready, its gonna be ugly. ProgRock 0
On a side note,Clemson being ranked at 9 speaks volumes of our offense, having only about 9 practice sessions and still beating them. I think our offense will be very unpredictable and simply wear out their defense if the QB is on or over 60 % completion ratio. That's the only downside of this offense,if your QB is off, it's not so hot. That's really why I think there is a need for two QB's,kind of a relief pitcher. If I had to pick teams that had the best chances of going one loss or undefeated this would be my list. However, polls should be who is the best team and WVU and OSU shouldn't be where they are. WVU in the top ten probably, not OSU.

Also USC may not win the pac 10 they are inconsistent. Ok. may be in teh big game this year... They return alot of talent and the big 12 only has texas. Kansas and mizzu dont impress me yet... mcgufcm 4,109
Texas?? Really? Their defense was garbage last year. The best things they had going (Jamaal Charles and Limas Sweed) both took their act to the NFL. I don't think they make it out of the Big XII South. I'll take Choklahoma out of the South, and Mizzou out of the North. Not a sexy out of left field pick, but those are the two most talented teams in the conference. Plus Mizzou's in-conference schedule is basically cake (at Texas is the only road game against a team with winning record). The hardest games on the slate for them are the bookend neutral site games (Illinois in St. Louis and Kansas in Kansas City). Back up picks: I'll take Texas in the South I guess and Colorado in the North. I'll say this upfront: if an SEC team goes 11-1 (and there are only four teams with that ceiling: UGA, UF, AU, and LSU in that order), they had a better year and are more than likely a better team than an unbeaten Big Ten, ACC, or Big East team. Texas Auburn is #11. Thoughts: WVU shouldn't be anywhere near #1. They will end up losing 2-3 losses and in the Big East that will kill any NC talk. Ohio State probably will be in the NC if they beat Southern Cal. Pathetic Florida should be ahead of UGA so no problem though UGA should be around #8-#10 than #4 LSU without RP is a 4 loss team and RP not being arrested before ASU would shock me. Name the 3 teams that will beat us this year? and its a toss up between Auburn and us... Not a laugh at all. Quite a possibility. I could see Rutgers, WVU, Louisville, South Florida and maybe Pitt beating WVU in 2008. Of course, I don't see WVU losing all 5 games but any of those five can in fact beat WVU and I think 2-3 will in fact beat If we are talking about the AU/WVU game, I suspect it will be close until the 4th Quarter. If the AU/WVU game started the year off, I would say WVU has a chance to beat AU but it really favors AU being mid-year so that their O can get some serious PT. I think AU fans are going to be surprised with their WR success in 2008

South Florida lost 2 great corners, but will be good. Pitt has a shot, but they need a better coach... we lost to pitt bc of rods playcalling he wouldnt mix it up. He kept calling the same 5 plays over and over and over and over... with the talent we have back I dont see us loosing with good playcalling... The AU game will be an amazing game. Please dont say it really favors AU because WVU playing in the mid of the year allows our New OC to get bugs worked out and our young D-line to get better and more PT it works both ways

SouthLink02 8
Rutgers lost Ray Rice, you can see wvu loosing to wvu? how is that possible? Rutgers has also recruited quite well the last 2 years and have become a solid program. If you think WVU will just roll right over them, you are kidding yourself. WVU loses their HC, Star RB, 6 Defense Starters, and a new offensive scheme that MADE the team so successful? That is a LOT to lose Pitt has a shot, but they need a better coach... we lost to pitt bc of rods playcalling he wouldnt mix it up. He kept calling the same 5 plays over and over and over and over..I would be blaming your own staff for their inability to adapt thenPlease dont say it really favors AU because WVU playing in the mid of the year allows our New OC to get bugs worked out and our young D-line to get better and more PT it works both ways To be honest, I would favor AU at any point of the year with the talent/depth they return. mcgufcm 4,109
If you're that convinced that your worst possible record is 11-1... you're silly. That's all I can say. Pitt beat you because they were a MUCH better defensive team and tougher. They out-manned you in your own backyard. If you don't think that team can beat you again, you're crazy. Auburn playing later favors us more than you. I promise. You may not know this, but we're awful early. We're rarely at full stride until week three. Add in the fact that we're making a bigger shift in philosophy, and the later start works in our favor. I'm not saying that swings the game to us... I'm saying it's better compared to a season opener. The other thing I'd say is that you've done a great job of pointing out how much other teams are losing, but you've really ignored the fact that you lost the mastermind behind your spread, you lost your number one running back, you lost your all-conference fullback, you lost your lead receiver, and you lost over half the starting defense. I'm not saying you can't do better than last year. All I'm saying is that you should probably lower your eyes a bit... if Stewart matches that 10-2 regular season record from last year, that's a helluva good job. As it seems, you'd be willing to call the year a bust with a 10-2 or 9-3 record.
