More awards for au professor

Looks like you've got more to be proud of.

In July 2006, he revealed to The New York Times that a disproportionate number of athletes - including 18 players from Auburn's undefeated football team in 2004 - received high grades for independent study courses that required little or no work.

As a result, Auburn announced new limits on the number of students whose independent study work can be supervised by a single professor. Petee was removed as department chairman.

Petee sued Auburn and the parties settled last summer. He is now a consultant to Auburn's extension campus in Montgomery.

Another one on the barns hush fund. How many ex employees have you guys had on '' hush or no trash talking '' contracts? Or is it '' other assignments''? Maybe it's ''consultant fundraiser'' contracts?

Auburn concluded there was no favoritism by Petee toward athletes and that athletes weren't steered toward him. Auburn said this week the investigation is still pending due to an informal inquiry by the NCAA.

"Auburn has submitted information in response and responded to questions concerning the response," Nikki Borges, Auburn associate athletics director for marketing and communications, wrote in a letter to The Birmingham News. "At this time, Auburn is awaiting either additional questions from or a final disposition by the NCAA."

For more than a year, The News has requested to see correspondence between Auburn and the NCAA, the SEC and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools regarding the independent study courses.

It's only a matter of time before eventually the right person comes forward and nails your corrupt university. Lowder is going to have the ncaa so far up your assess before it's over.

All of you keep laughing. We'll see who has the last laugh. The odds aren't in the barns favor. Like it or not it will happen.

I guess that means you'll be #2 on the cheaters list before long. :roflol:

gridironfan,

You apparently have no desire to be part of this community but are here only to stir up crap and post flamebait.

As such, I'm advising you to restrict such impulses to The Woodshed. I'm moving this post there. This is a warning. Don't post obvious stuff only meant to argue and take shots at Auburn in the other forums. If it happens again, you will either get a vacation from here or be banned, depending on my mood at the moment.

As such, I mearly linked a '' newly written'' news article that was posted today. I put in my comments and opinions as to what I think. It certainly isn't of most posters opinions here, seeing as how most are homers with no intention of even the slightest hint of being subjective. Even though that is what is expected from visitors by most of your members here. Because it is an au board do your members have right to immediately attack a visitor because he doesn't think or agree with most members here? There are very, very few open subjective discussions anywhere here on this site between a non-au fan and base members without au fans bashing the slightest words of disagreement. It usually goes straight to insults with no repercussions. I've seen many posts about respect coming to someone else’s board but in the same thread bashing by members first.

I was under the impression that this board was tolerant to all views, not just that of the most homeristic views and opinions that fill this site. I realize where I’m at. No need for obvious reminders that is sure to come.

I started out being quite courteous and polite, you can check for yourselves, but when my opinions were not approved of names and insults occurred by your members, you can check that as well, I certainly refrained from it for a while.

I'm sure everyone understands rules of respect. I'll say it again. I didn't come here attacking or insulting anyone first. I started doing what was done to me and that's when the crap started. I took it for a bit, no mods, infact some of the first insults came from a certain mod here. I know he was embarrassed by it.

What I posted isn't any different from anything any regular members haven't posted about another school.

As for baiting, you guys do it constantly and as for your mood, do what ever you need to.

Why are you even here? This crap is old news and nowhere near "staring down the barrell of a gun" no matter how bad you want it to be. Just keep dreaming of the day your school gets a win over the tigers (Auburn or LSU) and just keep reminding yourself that bama's recruiting went well this year. See...you really did beat us in something... B) .

I suggest you go play with your bama friends. Maybe some of them won't see you as ignorant as we do.

Question, Is gridironfan an Auburn hater or a fan of the most corrupt

school to ever field a football team?

It's our board. And we generally keep the most obvious flamebait even from Aubies in the Woodshed. But also, generally speaking, that's not the only stuff they post. It does seem to be all you're interested in posting.

I'm just giving you fair warning and a clear explanation. If you want to discuss football minus the other crap, feel free to start such topics in the appropriate forum. If you want to talk about "hush funds" and other bammeristic nonsense, you'll do it in the Woodshed or you won't do it at all here.

Why not just ban him? He brings nothing to the table other than lame flame bait posts. If he thinks Auburn is a corrupt university why not ask him to bring forth evidence other than this retread crap from the New York Times? I feel sorry for gridironfan, the damp in his momma's basement has gotten to him.

bull****. From your very first illiterate post you made here you've done nothing but rip every part of our university. You came in here with your inability to spell every word in a sentence correctly and claimed some vast superiority over all things Auburn. It's the ONLY thing you ever done since you got here. In case you didn't make the connection, it was your inability to spell correctly and use good grammar that tipped me off that you couldn't be more than 12, thus giving you the moniker, baby grid. I'm sure you are referring to me, and let me make something perfectly clear to you. I don't care what you think about me. Clear enough? BUT, I will not sit quietly by, while some 12 year old moron insults every aspect of the university that I love and do it on OUR board. You hate auburn, wonderful, throw a party for yourself and your cousin/mother, but take it somewhere else. Your incessant need to pacify your auburn hate on an auburn board, shows how inferior you feel about yourself.

What I posted isn't any different from anything any regular members haven't posted about another school.

As for baiting, you guys do it constantly and as for your mood, do what ever you need to.

Now, read this very carefully. Let's look at the top of your web browser for a minute. The board you are on is AUNATION.net. Most everyone that posts here (with a few exceptions) are Auburn fans. Yes we talk about other schools here and (in uat's case) often laugh at them and the fan base, BUT, we do it HERE. We are not running over to uat boards and running off at the mouth claiming our vast superiority like you have seen fit to do here from your very first illiterate post.

There are several rival fans here that are actually friends of mine. One of them happens to be an alabama fan, and he's even done some work for me that has nothing to do with Auburn or Alabama. If you ever took the time to look instead of coming here with your auburn hate and attacks, you would see many discussions where rivals have participated that didn't end up as a flame fest. Sadly, you aren't capable of even finding these threads, much less participating in them. You came here ONLY to perpetuate your auburn hate on us here.

Your uncontrolled anger and constant need to sling insults shows how you must not have been loved as a child. Your very mature moderator.

You show me where I started insulting anyone first. Don't take it out of context either. Put it up here and prove it, otherwise don't accuse me of insulting anyone before I had it thrown at me from every which way because they didn't like me bringing up the fact that all most of you were doing was being hypocritical. You ,as a mod, were one of the first to start slinging insults and honestly that's very childish.

Like I said ,who's 12 years old ,huh junior?

You all make some false accusations about cheating with nothing to substatiate any of it other than ''my source isn't for the public''. I refuted it and pointed out you have a worse history than Bama and it is in the record books. That's what excited you. Quite frankly I don't give a crap what you think.

So it is your board. Does that mean no one is allowed to defend the school they love and point out that some of you are dead wrong about some of the things you say. Is there a rule that for every piece of crap some of you spew that is incorrect someone else can't do the same? Because it's an au board is it against the rules to say the same bad things about au, that are quite true , that you say about Bama?

Look at what started this. I was polite at first. YOU people began with the insults, not me.

audarealtiger, it was a ''new '' article on the professor winning an award. Did you get someone to read it to you? Some of the info was about au having the ncaa still camped at your door and investigating. A fact that some of you don't care about, but seem to get a rise out of Bama's last bout of probation. Just another point I was making about me finding humor in you people pointing your tainted finger at someone else.

No one said anything about ''starring down a barrel of a gun'' . Just more bs and rhetiric from you.

First of all, its only new in the sense that the professor was recognized. IF YOU would read, you'd realize this was the drake group, a group with an agenda against college sports. So this is like being awarded by Al-queda for being the most anti-American. Congrats Dr. Gundlach. Enjoy being a whistle blower. Congrats gridiron for just blowing in general.

I don't have a problem with Dr. Gundlach raising the issue. But there are means to do it. He just wanted personal publicity and went straight to the papers. Thats his right. And its my right to think he's a douche for going about it that way and exposing the university I love to criticism and public disgrace for what could have been handled as an internal issue. If I went to the papers everytime I saw something I didn't like in a place I worked, I wouldn't have a job either. But then I don't want my name on the cover of the NYT. Been there done that, its not that great.

How stupid are you baby grid? Really, I need to know. I know you are a uat fan, but damn. Pushing that idiot envelope to the extreme. One more time, I don't care what you think of me or anything else about me. You know NOTHING about the program you blindly follow and less about me. You really don't get it, do you? YOU (nobody else here) JUST YOU, come here and insult our program and university to no end, and wonder why we are attacking you?? Are you really that stupid? Wait, we already know you are, as you have repeatedly proven by post after post on an AUBURN board. I don't understand how you think you can come here and rip our program, calling it second rate, etc...and have the audacity to question why you are having insults hurled at you left and right. Believe me, baby grid, I've held back with you to this point. You are a total idiot and fit the uat stereotype to a T

How would you know what's true about Auburn? You don't even know your own schools history, much less somebody else's. No one here has ever said you can't defend your inferior program. Other posters here like BG and RWS adamantly defend everything that is UAT, but when they do, they don't do it under the guise of ripping Auburn university like you have done since you got here. What exactly have we said here about uat that is so dead wrong, baby grid? UAT CHEATS and has been since the 1920's. It's well documented. UAT and its administration and bryant CONSTANTLY turned in other programs throughout the south to the ncaa to keep them away from his own program. UAT also repeatedly set up auburn with the NCAA to get us put on probation. I happen to be friends with a player that played at Auburn from 1958-1961 so I think he knows a little more about auburn football than you do. Those are FACTS. They all happened. What is so dead wrong? Not ONCE was auburn facing the death penalty, yet uat was. You are in a one baby battle here grid. You can run off at the mouth until you get tired and leave, but always remember this. You are the only uat fan fighting this fight here. Again, that really should tell you something.

Tell me right now ,does that mean I'm not allowed to be here to voice my opinion without being insulted or attacked every time because you don't like it?

There are several rival fans here that are actually friends of mine. One of them happens to be an alabama fan, and he's even done some work for me that has nothing to do with Auburn or Alabama. If you ever took the time to look instead of coming here with your auburn hate and attacks, you would see many discussions where rivals have participated that didn't end up as a flame fest. Sadly, you aren't capable of even finding these threads, much less participating in them. You came here ONLY to perpetuate your auburn hate on us here.

Just more bs and rhetiric from you.

hate to do this baby grid. wait, no i don't.... Once again, not knowing your own schools history really makes you look stupid. You constantly open your mouth and validate that stupidity. Congrats...

Barrel of a gun....

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The NCAA placed Alabama on five years' probation Friday, jolting the program Bear Bryant built into a power with a two-year bowl ban and heavy scholarship reductions.

The governing body said it considered giving the Crimson Tide the most severe punishment -- the death penalty -- under the repeat violator rules for a recruiting scandal in which boosters were accused of paying money for high school players.

"They were absolutely staring down the barrel of a gun," said Thomas Yeager, chairman of the infractions committee.

"These violations are some of the worst, most serious that have ever occurred," he said.

The university, accused of 11 major violations -- one was later withdrawn -- and five minor charges under two former coaches, said it would appeal.

President Andrew Sorensen said university officials "are firm in our belief that the penalties are inappropriate."

"We regret that we must prolong this process, but the decision we have been given today is simply unacceptable," Sorensen said.

Barring a successful appeal, the program that leads the nation in bowl appearances (51) and wins (29) will miss the postseason for consecutive years for the first time since 1957 and 1958, the year Bryant arrived in Tuscaloosa.

The Tide contested the two most publicized charges involving claims of boosters making five-figure payments to lure two recruits.

But it admitted some violations and imposed penalties on itself, including a reduction of 15 scholarships over three years and the temporary disassociation of three boosters at the heart of the recruiting scandal.

The university-imposed sanctions did not include a postseason ban.

The NCAA reduced the number of football scholarships the school can award by 21 over three years. It also said the university would face tougher penalties if it did not permanently disassociate the boosters.

The sanctions could cost the university millions. Last year, Alabama received about $1.5 million from its share of the Southeastern Conference's bowl proceeds and its take from the Independence Bowl.

The violations occurred under former coaches Mike DuBose and Gene Stallings.

None of the accusations involve current coach Dennis Franchione or his staff. Franchione was out of town recruiting on the final weekend before national signing day.

"Although the penalties handed down today are much stiffer than we anticipated, the mystery is cleared up and we know what we are up against," he said. "The coaches, the players and I must roll up our sleeves and work that much harder to sustain and restore Crimson Tide football."

DuBose released a statement through a Birmingham law firm.

"I am deeply distressed and surprised by the severity of the sanctions handed down today by the NCAA," he said. "I am especially disappointed for the players, current coaching staff and all of the fans of our university."

If Alabama is found guilty of further violations during the probationary period, Yeager suggested the death penalty -- the elimination of a sports program -- could result.

"God forbid, there's ever another appearance -- ever," Yeager said. "Should there be one -- particularly within the five-year period -- I don't know what's left."

The university contended that accusations of a $20,000 payment to prospect Kenny Smith in the mid-1990s fell outside the governing body's statute of limitations.

Alabama officials also argued the NCAA couldn't prove that high school coaches for Memphis prospect Albert Means received money to steer the defensive lineman to Alabama, or that any money was linked to Tide booster Logan Young.

But the NCAA said a booster agreed to give Means' coach $115,000 to get Means to sign with Alabama and said three payments of $10,000 were made.

Means signed with the Tide, but has since transferred to Memphis. Young, a Memphis businessman, was one of the boosters dissociated from the university. He has denied any wrongdoing in the recruiting of Means.

"Those conclusions are erroneous and unfounded," said Jim Neal, Young's attorney in Nashville, Tenn. "As I look more at the NCAA and its procedure, the whole process appears to be basically unfair."

Alabama's football program was placed on three years' probation in 1995. All-America defensive back Antonio Langham admitted signing with a sports agent the morning after the Tide gained the national title with a Sugar Bowl win over Miami but returned to play his senior season.

Alabama would later win an appeal, getting one of the three years of probation lifted and nine of 26 scholarships restored.

Alabama's basketball program avoided sanctions in 1999 following claims that a former assistant basketball coach, Tyrone Beaman, tried to create a slush fund for recruits. The NCAA praised Alabama's handling of the matter.

I didn't come here attacking or insulting anyone first. I started doing what was done to me and that's when the crap started. I took it for a bit, no mods, infact some of the first insults came from a certain mod here. I know he was embarrassed by it.[/b]

Grid, why do you get so personal with the forum?

Have you seen the way BG, Win, Argo, and others deal with AU fans? They take things in stride, stick to football/sports, and generally do a solid job not making it an all-out personal slam-fest. Of course a few threads get a little personal or something but I give BG and them credit in that it generally stays good-natured.

Look at me, I am years into this forum and outside of a little stint with WarTim a few years back, I have been successful in staying away from those types

This is an AU forum. You have to EXPECT bias, You have to EXPECT to keep your mouth shut, and You have to EXPECT to be made fun of. This is THEIR house, THEIR forum, and THEIR people. You better know you aren't going to get many that agree with your tilt on things

To give you an example, just look at after the UGA/AU game last year. I tried to just stay away because it seemed like most wanted to murder Richt and our players for what went on during/after the game. I could have jumped in and defended them or said smack back but why go down that road? I know most didn't mean it and to be honest...when UGA loses, I vent much worse than anyone here.

You just need to learn to pick your battles and stop getting so damn angry/personal. Lighten up

The Mods/Admins here do NOT go after those rivals who follow the rules. WarTiger is a great guy as is DKW and the others who make/mod this forum

The Birmingham News wrote the following article showing how Bammer keeps their football players eligible back in the fall of 2006. Gridiron and the rest of the Bammer idiots should pay close attention to the following points in this article:

1.) Simeon Castille was declared academically ineligible for the Bammers Cotton Bowl game against Texas Tech after he only passed 3 credit hours in the fall of 2005. After becoming ineligible, Simeon Castille changed his major to General Studies in the College of Human Environmental Sciences.

2.) Ahmad Childress was put on academic probation after his GPA fell to 1.7. After going on academic probation, Ahmad Childress changed his major to General Studies in the College of Human Environmental Sciences. The academic advisors at Bammer are the people who made Ahmad Childress aware of the General Studies major in the first place. Ahmad Childress raised his GPA from 1.7 to 2.5 after he changed his major to General Studies. This is a direct quote Ahmad Childress made in the Birmingham News story about the General Studies major at Bammer: "It's a safe home for athletes to be eligible for football and other sports, too. You really don't do too much work. You're basically taking notes in class."

3.) The General Studies classes described in the Birmingham News article are still going on at Bammer today. The Bammer administration has never done anything to stop those classes. Gridiron fan and the rest of the Bammer idiots need to go worry about their own corrupt school instead of coming over here and bothering us.

Athletes make academic end run

JON SOLOMON

News staff writer

The class was easy enough for Ahmad Childress, then a University of Alabama football player: Write about football.

For three credits one summer, Childress said, he and five teammates composed an entire football class that required only instructing a football camp for kids in Gulf Shores and writing a four-page essay.

"That was the whole class. I got an A," Childress said. "Yeah, it was a little weird, but sometimes you've got to do what you've got to do to be eligible."

In the world of big-time college athletics, eligibility can trump education. The pressure to win ball games and make money creates, for better and for worse, a special path for some athletes to remain academically eligible to play.

That path is lined with fancy academic centers for athletes and a support army of academic advisers and tutors.

It is marked also with easy classes to which some athletes gravitate.

At Alabama, the most popular football major is general studies in the College of Human Environmental Sciences. Twenty-six percent of football players majored in general studies in HES compared with 2 percent of all Alabama students.

The clustering of athletes in certain majors isn't necessarily unethical or against a university's policy, and is common on most campuses.

"I don't know why anybody in the world would expect the students who arrive with lesser academic credentials not to end up in the easiest majors," said University of Alabama law Professor Gene Marsh, the school's former faculty athletics representative.

"But people who say it's OK to end up with athletes huddled in particular majors because of their time demands don't understand reality. There are many students working many hours a week in part-time jobs" and they do not cluster into easy majors, he said.

Academic survival

Many athletes don't need a special path through college - they take challenging courses without the need for extra guidance. But at every school, pockets of athletes who struggle academically find ways to stay eligible.

Alabama cornerback Simeon Castille wishes he were still a communications major. He wants to become a broadcaster.

He's a general studies major in the College of Human Environmental Sciences now because "I screwed up, and this is getting me back on track to graduate."

Castille was academically ineligible for the Cotton Bowl last season. He became lazy, he said, and passed only three credits in the fall 2005 semester, leading to his ineligibility and a change in major.

General studies in HES is a popular place for key Alabama football players. It accounts for 40 percent of the majors for undergrad starters in 2006, as of Oct. 14, according to the team's media guide.

General studies combines two or more existing majors from the College of Human Environmental Sciences: apparel and textiles, athletic training, consumer sciences, early childhood education, food and nutrition, health studies, human development and family studies, interior design, and restaurant and hospitality management.

"It's a safe home for athletes to be eligible for football and other sports, too," said Childress, the former Alabama defensive tackle who was a general studies major. "You really don't do too much work. You're basically taking notes in class."

Childress said he was made aware of HES general studies by advisers in the athletics department.

After going on academic probation when his grade-point average fell to 1.7, Childress said he used easy general studies courses and electives to increase his mark to the 2.5 the university said he needed to play.

Childress, an arena football player who is 15 credits shy of graduating, said he regrets treating academics so lightly and blames himself. He wishes he had told advisers he was interested in human resources instead of easily accepting classes that would keep him playing football.

"Nobody never challenged me. I wish somebody had. But . ?. ?. at that time, you're a grown man. It's on you."

Logan Young first became a Bammer booster back in the 1960's. Everybody knows Logan Young was paying Bammer players for 30 or 40 years before he was finally caught by the NCAA. The Bammers kept Hootie Ingram on the payroll even after he was fired as their athletic director in the early 1990's, they kept Mal Moore on the payroll doing nothing after he was fired as Gene Stallings offensive coordinator in the mid-1990's, and they kept Joe Kines on their payroll after he was fired as their defensive coordinator a couple of years ago.

LSU lost a couple of scholarships for changing players grades while Saban was the coach in Baton Rouge. Lynn Lang has always claimed Bobby Williams was one of the coaches involved in the bidding war for Albert Means. According to Lynn Lang, Bobby Williams offered him a ton of money in return for getting Albert Means to sign a scholarship with Michigan State. Saban just hired Bobby Willaims as one of his assistant coaches a couple of months ago. Mal Moore was Logan Young's best friend. Mal Moore is still the Bammer athletic director today. What school beside Bammer would keep Logan Young's best friend as their schools athletic director? With people like Nick Saban, Bobby Williams, and Mal Moore on their payrolle, it probably wont be long until the Bammers get put probation again.
