Longtrainn 2
Cool, thanks for posting. I'd say it's about accurate. It looks like all the SEC coaches are relatively safe... here's how they ranked (with 5 being "on the hot seat" and 0 being "untouchable") 3 - Bobby Johnson - Vanderbilt 2.5 - Steve Spurrier - South Carolina 2 - Bobby Petrino - Arkansas 2 - Houston Nutt - Ole Miss 2 - Phil Fulmer - Tennessee 1 - Nick Saban - Alabama 1 - Tommy Tuberville - Auburn 1 - Rich Brooks - Kentucky 1 - Sylvester Croom - Miss. State 0 - Urban Meyer - Florida 0 - Mark Richt - Georgia 0 - Les Miles - LSU They said anything 2.5 or below is considered "safe," so that's everyone but Johson. Even with him, I don't think he's in that much danger.
sogaaufan 27
The only one I would question on that list would be Fulmer. I would imagine that the seat is getting at least a little warm if he doesn't do something pretty dramatic.
quietfan 233
I can't remember the last time every coach in the SEC was this relatively safe. I think I would have put Petrino closer to a "1" than a "2", however. After the circus of Nutt for the last year or two, I think Hog fans will certainly give Petrino more than one year. (Of course, will Petrino give THEM more than one year..he does own stock in the Mayflower moving co., doesn't he?) Fulmer iced his derriere a little with a trip to the SECCG. IF not for that, I'd have given him a "3"
AUslug 1
To me, Johnson at a 3 is a stretch. Vandy doesn't want him going anywhere since they are somewhat competitive in the SEC under his watch. Fulmer's fanny has been warm for a while but with trips to Atlanta in 01,04, and 07 have helped. The Vols have been average since 1997-98 but still one of the top level teams in the SEC compared to South Carolina, Alabama and the Mississippi schools. Hell, former players had to take a page out of the Knoxville Sentinal last year JUST to show support for him because so many wanted him gone. Put him at a 3.5, imo - Saban should be a 0 - Brooks should be a 2.5 at LEAST - I suspect Miles jumps to a 2 next year IF LSU struggles as much as I think they do
AU alum 2
I would have thought Fulmer was closer to a "hot seat" than Bobby Johnson. Johnson is not such a bad coach, he just doesn't have much of a chance at Vandy to do anything. Football is not their thing.
quietfan 233
- Saban should be a 0 I agree Saban is pretty untouchable this year. The Sabanites aren't going to let him go until they get to see "the all-time #1, best ever, divinely ordained, super-human recruiting class" on the field. But Bama fans are also notoriously fickle, and more off-field discipline problems, La-Monroe-type losses, or Auburn adding another year or two to the Streak and he could be dodging bricks and watching moving vans in the blink of an eye. The rumbling was pretty strong among the Bammer faithful at the end of the season. The recruiting class sort of made everything allright. Remember, bammers are the most "what have you done for me lately" fans in all of sports. If the season doesn't start out with a bang, the "#1 recruiting class" will be a distant memory. mcgufcm 4,109
Given Bama's history of fickleness and Auburn's history with Tubs specifically, I don't think either guy can be considered a 0. You're telling me you can't come up with ANY scenario in which either guy would be under the gun?

They may just keep him around and him be safe until then. I would think that Fat Phil would be getting a little red cheeked form the seat warming up. Maybe he is safer than I thought. I would also agree with with AUslug on Johnson. I would also think him to be pretty safe.

They start the season at UCLA this year, play Florida and @Auburn back to back, and with Georgia and Alabama looming, it could be a bad year for the Vols. And another bad year for Fulmer and folks in Tennessee will start talking new head coach I would think.
SouthLink02 8
Agreed. Fulmer needs to win the SEC soon. He has beat UF, He has beaten UGA, He has beat Bama.....he does enough of those every year to save his job But, they still have not won the SEC since the late 90's and that isn't acceptable at UT
