Well, they had better go ahead and suspend the Right Guard on their football team while they're at it...odds are he is wearing the number 69 on his uni.

I doubt he's trying to look fashionably sexy. If that parent, or student, thought anything other than what everyone else knows 69 to mean, then they are absolutely out of touch. There is no way in hell my daughter leaves the house with anything even remotely associated with sex on her body. To defend it shows me a parent who thinks it is more important to be popular than to teach restraint and discretion. In an anything goes society, we must be ever vigilant that our children do not put themselves into any more "misunderstandings" than they will already get into.

Who else would allow their 14 yr. old to wear a shirt like this? Any takers?

I think everyone knows that the right guard is wearing a number that has no other intent than to play football. This kid...not so much.

So, he just randomly chose that number?

Don't get me wrong, I think the little tramplette has some serious issues...beginning with her Mom. If the school wants to have that much say in a kid's wardrobe, they should just go ahead and implement a white shirt, blue pants dress code.

Wouldn't that be great. We would save a ton of money also. When my oldest went to a private school, they had uniforms. The initial cost seemed a bit high, but in the end it was great. No controversy whatsoever. Except maybe the hanging a little low in the pants thing. But I NEVER saw anyone's underwear. Or any of the young girls newly developed assets. It allowed the kids have a little imagination. Not such a bad thing.

But to have a blatantly sexual message on your shirt and then claim "fashion", not good parenting at all.

This, we agree on.

Maybe. Or it was assigned to him by the coaches, which is often how it happens. Either way, it has a legitimate purpose on the football field and most people won't think a thing about it. Context is key. A guy walking around barechested in a swimsuit at the beach or the pool is hardly noticed. Do the same thing at school or church and people have a very different take on it. A kid wearing "69" while playing football doesn't really get noticed. Walk around junior high or high school with a t-shirt that says that and it tends to stand out a bit more.

Maybe they should. Or we could just demand people use more common sense.

Just because she was wearing "a shirt with the number '69' on it", doesn't mean she did, or had, or would, or was advertising in any way. It could be she has 69 Barbie dolls at home, but what was Ken doing?

Hey, I WAS a high school sophomore in the fall of '69. Never realized I was X-rated that whole semester...

So now we're censoring numbers? What if her favorite football player was Steve Fifita (New England Patriots #69)...or her brother's/father's military unit was the "Fighting 69th"...could she wear the number in that case? Sounds more like Sharia law. Better tell your great-grandchildren who might become seniors in 2069 to put off their graduation for 12 months lest they offend someone.

Total overreaction on the school's part, IMO. Ignore it. Other than perhaps a few initial giggles, the 8th graders would have forgotten about it by lunch time. How many parents now had to explain to their much younger children why "that girl in the news" got suspended?

The girl and the mother knows what it means.

Like previously stated, no WAY my daughter leaves the house wearing that shirt.

And I fully respect your right to dress your family as your conscience leads you.

I just think it's too much for a school to start handing out suspensions for numbers that could have many meanings or none at all.

I think anyone who tries to argue this has no meaning at all has ostriches for relatives. I'm sure the same people think that Hooters restaurants are really about owls too.

But I agree that a suspension was overkill. Simply make her change the shirt or wear something over it. Now, if she wore it again, all bets would be off.

Yep. Bring on the Burkas, and start sending boys and girls to different schools.

I think the biggest issue her is that the parent is trying to back their daughter on what is clearly a bad decision. They both know what it means.

And Quiet, why should my kids have to wonder what this means or does not mean. This girl is not even in high school. This is a middle school 8th and under. When she gets to high school and decides to act like a whore, go for it. I'm sure there are plenty of upperclassmen that will be ready to help her out with her suggestion.

I do have to add one other thing. The video says that the girl's sister wore the same or a similar shirt to school already and the school administration made her put another shirt on over it. So I think the notion that this poor little girl innocently stumbled into this controversy might be lacking in credibility. In that light, the suspension might be justified. Most likely, she already knew the school did not see the shirt as acceptable attire and chose to wear it anyway.
