Wow, that was a butt-kicking

Held Bama to 212 yds of total offense. EIGHT sacks. Two interceptions. Rolled up 356 yds of offense themselves.

I still think OU or UF would beat them. Hell, Bama might have beat them if Andre doesn't pull his stupid stunt. But they're the only undefeated team and they beat two good BCS teams (Oregon State and Alabama) this year. They at least deserve to be in the conversation for a national title.

I think they should be in the conversation for the NC considering they beat the team that was #1 most of the year. It sucks that they won't even get a chance.... They played a hell of a game.

I don't think Smith would have helped much if he hadn't been suspended.. maybe with the sacks.. but Utah just outplayed and outcoached them, it is hard to say that one player would have changed that.

What really shocks me is that this is the OL you will see next year minus two players and a QB.. that is an attention getter..

It was more of a domino effect:

Andre (All American and our best player) is out.

Johnson slides out of his position to play LT and Ross plays LG.

Johnson gets hurt in the 2nd drive.

Drew Davis moves from RT to LT and freshmen John Michael Boswell (true frosh) comes in to play RT.

Glenn Coffee gets hurt in the 3rd.

Ingram misses a HUGE block that led to JPW fumble.

It wasn't just andre out. It was andre out and then 3 of your 5 OLs playing out of position. And 3 OLs coming off the bench to play against a healthy D line.

Next year, DJ Fluker will be our LT. Drew has done fine at his natural position this year, so that will not be an issue. And you won't have the OL lineup completely shaken up at the 11th hour. The Oline next year will have the benefit of practicing in these positions.

oh.. ok.. I didn't know all of that.. that changes everything. I will retract my first statement and go on record as saying that alabama will have the best OL in the nation next season.

Utah was amazing in that first quarter. Their athletes made some fantastic plays, specifically their WR's. They jumped up and caught some balls.

Utah had the perfect defensive gameplan. It was the gameplan I have always supported. Play the DB's off a little bit and blitz. It seemed like they were sending five almost every play. They gave JPW no time to throw the ball.

I have always rooted for the SEC, but I was definitely cheering throughout this one with a smile throughout.

I believe I have no right to say Bama sux or anything like that, after what they did to Auburn. But it was nice to see them put in their place for one game.

Utah did outplay the bammies: they outhustled, outhit, outblocked, outtackled, outran ... ... not to mention the Utah coach outcoached "S the coach." (There really is no reason to even mention it because it was so evident.)

The only stat where the bammies showed more was in kickoff returns. And when you think about it, that's one stat you never want to be way out in front. B) Clearly, the Utes wanted it more than the bammies and thus, they deserved to win. Congrats to the Utes: undefeated in 2008 & 2004. Mighty impressive. As if we cfb fans needed any more proof, the Ute's win tonight demonstrates how truly meaningless the BCS rankings really are because the rankings cannot factor in motivation & desire. This was another prime example of why only a playoff is the fairest way to determine the NC. Too much consideration in the polls is given to perception & "tradishun."

Even your coach just admitted on the postgame media conference that y'all finally experienced what a lot of teams has this year. INJURIES to starters. Congrats on a great year and enjoy it while it last. Next year looks like it's going to be another rebuilding year(LOL) according to Saban.

Ah it's nice to see the old bama spin coming forth again. Funny you never recognized that a lot of the teams bama beat has lots of injuries too.

Bottom line...Utah came to play and Bama didnt. Utah looked like a team that wanted to play in the Sugar Bowl, Alabama looked like they could have cared less. The injuries, hurt but that is all part of it. We had opportunities and didnt take advantage of them. Congrats Utah, you kicked our butt.

I never said Andre was the only reason we lost.

But when your best player and ALL AMERICAN left tackle goes down...and leads directly to your ALL SEC Left guard going down...and your QB runs for his life all night...

Saying "I don't think Smith would have helped much if he hadn't been suspended" is a misjudgement on a massive scale.

It was fat fill in the ballroom with the candlestick! No the ref's screwed you ! No wait it was those damn agent's, The probation. ah ah ah It's Gorge Bush's fault that's it !BLA BLA BLA

The UTE'S were better Coached and played harder. How about showing some of that Bama Class and give them some damn Credit! I thought you would win too. Oh well,

The better team won period :cheer: WAR DAMN UTE'S

Utah also beat Michigan in the Big House first game of the season. Granted, UM turned out to be not so good this year. They beat UA's almost coach and UA's present coach.

The Utes also beat a pretty good TCU team and a Colorado State team that looked good against Fresno State.

It was the one thing I stated five weeks ago. Bama had 1 main injury this season (BIG NOSE COTY) until this game. Bama wasn't deep, just fortunate. "IF" bama has the same injuries we had this year, Bama would have been playing in Dallas or Nashville today.

BTW.....Ole Miss sure did the SEC proud, along with LSU and UGA.

Anyone who doesn't see this as a direct result of Andre Smith being out is crazy. Alabama's Achilles heel this year was depth. If they got a couple of key injuries, they were in trouble, whether it was JPW or Andre or Caldwell. Tonight, you saw that. Andre was out, his backup got injured and the line got shuffled around. They do not have enough talented depth to take that kind of hit. This JPW was running for his life all night long.

Doesn't change what happened and it's not an excuse. It's just the game of football.

Don't forget, Bama will be rolling 5 deep at running back...

Saban showed me tonight and in the Sec championship game he does not know how to defend against the spread. Bama fans can say what they want Utah's offense took the bama D to the woodshed. And when Utah got in their wild ute formation or what ever they call it Bama was lost. Malzahn is looking like a very good hire. All the bama fans have said all week that Kevin Steele would not be missed because Saban runs the alabama D, well Saban had better learn to defend the spread quick.

While it is nice to watch UA get destroyed by anyone I am also disappointed the SEC now has two losses in bowl games. I will be the first to say congrats to Bama for at least making it to a bowl game but why did you have to go and get embarrassed. I really thought that all UA had to do to win the game would be to line up and just run it. I remember telling my father-n-law whom is a bammer fan that I thought Bama got screwed in the bowl selection by having to play a weak team like Utah and that Bama should be playing Texas. I guess I was wrong.

Better coaching might have helped too.

you were wrong! Bama did not get screwed Utah did!

I think this game showed Saban is a little behind the times; defensively they struggled with UF and Utah's spread, and offensively they are still with the 80's and 90's, play-action pass NFL style game that has no chance to keep up with a high-scoring spread team. Look how well Muschamp's defenses did against UF when he was at Auburn, and Texas was the only team to slow OU down this year; I don't think Saban is the great defensive mind some of the TV commentators have played him up to be. Even Ole Miss did a much better job against the spread today than 'Bama; tackling everything right as it was caught.

This year was the 'perfect storm', with a senior QB and an injury free season, along with the SEC being WAY down; unless he goes out and hires Muschamp and an offensive guru, I have little fear that Saban is going to do anything as dominating as UF will put together the next 3 or 4 years...

Anyone hear BAMA'S BACK!!!

I would consider 12-2 back. Would you take that record at AU?

I mean this as an honest question

What exactly does "back" mean? Exactly that is....specifically
