My family's report from the Sugar Bowl

As many of you know, I have family that works on the Sugar Bowl Committee so we can get tickets every year and my father/sister/brother-in-law and friends usually end up going even if teams we aren't interested in aren't a part.

Now, neither my father/sister/brother-in-law/friends had any affiliation with Utah/Bama nor did they have any preference who won

Let me start off with the positives since I know anything non-pro-Bama will be met with the Bama fans claiming I am out to get them and hate them and their families and everything about them.

- Bama fans bring big crowds and they apparently spend a LOT. It isn't a coincidence that New Orleans always sees a hefty spike whenever Bama has come to the Sugar Bowl. They are VERY welcomed here.

- Didn't see any fights so that was good and I haven't heard of anything outragous done around the Quarter so they seem very level-headed.

- Sister said the Bama folks around them were never a problem to them and very nice before the game. I can personally attest to wanting to physically rip apart fans from many teams the last few years who sat around us. Oklahoma fans were the WORST in '03 and it isnt even close AND I WAS ROOTING FOR THEM.

- Said the Utah folks were very calm but akward

Now the negatives

- As my sister said, "I have never seen so many fans at once turn on one player"...I asked her who and she kept saying Wilson....she didn't even know who he was before the game yet after she did after because she said the amount of threats being leveled at him during/after was....shocking. She told me some of the stuff people were yelling at him and even I....who has said some NASTY things to players....am like....really? Dealt with his family, him, you name it.

- Said arguments were heated up during the game. Apparently people were turning on each other. She said she had never seen that before. But again, no fights.

- Utah fans again tried to bait Alabama fans at times with the "You are from the South and a moron" type comment.

Now the weird

- Said she knew everything about the "Bear" when the game ended due to the amount of times she heard him mentioned. I am actually not making that up.

- Some Utah fans had shirts that talked about God wanting Utah to win because he hates Alabama :blink:

And I bet they didn't see a single one of the long-exstinct, urban-legend, rumored-but-never-seen houndstooth baseball caps either.

Sorry, Matt, I came of age in the seventies (as I assume a lot on this board did also). I'll NEVER forget how bad they are.

Thanks for posting that SLink. I looked around on al.com and read a few blogs: http://blog.al.com/bamabeat/2009/01/we_wer...y_for_them.html

Check out what the first 3 posters have to say about JPW. uat's all time record-setting QB:

The only good thing that happened tonight is JPW can't play for us again

Farewell John Parker Wilson...hands down the worst quarterback I've ever seen at the University of Alabama.

What bizarro world are we in that he holds almost every single record in the books, and one of the worst win percentages?

Bad end to a great season... Bye-Bye to JPW. And thank God.

Un-freakin-believable. bammie class on display.

This quote pisses me off: Utah fans again tried to bait Alabama fans at times with the "You are from the South and a moron" type comment.

Utah can kiss my Southern born, rebel arse ;).

Now...congrats on the destruction of Sabar Nation. :)

We may be morons, but we get to drink Bourbon.

Maybe when you turn 21... :big:

:roflol:

There was thread awhile back about obnoxious fan bases and southlink said he didn't think UAT's were that bad. That's what I was referencing......

If you were a really, really good high school quarterback, and you heard how the fans at UAT talk about their quarterbacks, would you want to play there? I mean, every school does to some extent, but I really think SPUAT has taken it to a new level.

With the right incentive, an 18 year old could be convinced to go anywhere...
