PChamp119 96
I was reading the article after their game. The coach was talking about how angry he was that the country didn't give them any respect and that he was angry that Saban quoted after the Florida game that they were the only team to go undefeated in the regular season in a "real BCS conference." He also stated he is voting Utah #1. He states they are the only undefeated team in the country. Well I'm sorry dude, but you can't. Coaches have to vote UF/OU #1 - it's a rule. Sorry. I found this interesting. Maybe it was different since they are the only undefeated team, but I recall Urban Meyer being quoted that his Utah Utes did not deserve a shot at the National Title in '04 because their schedule was nowhere near as tough as USC, OU, or Auburn's and that they didn't have the skill level to match with them. Utah felt disrespected before Sugar Bowl! OK - one there weren't any quotes or links in this forum about it. Two, you hardly ever hear it directly from the head coach. Three, it was linking a direct quote from Saban (which you guys on this board are obsessed with). Four, I was bringing up a comparison from when Meyer was there. Five, I was bringing up the fact that he actually thinks he is voting his team #1 when he isn't allowed to. mod edit: leave the name calling out of it... Just because you didn't bother to read them doesn't mean you were the first to post this. Check the posts made directly after the game and on 2 Jan -- all day. 2. That's because Kyle Whittingham is too smart to say something about it before the game (unlike the AP Coach of the Year. LMAO.) He didn't want to give uat any lockerroom material. Note what he says when asked about $abun's comment directly after losing the SECCG: http://blog.al.com/bamabeat/2008/12/so_who...about_utah.html In fact, Utah's coach was asked during tonight's bowl teleconference about a statement Saban made during his opening comments after last night's SEC title game: "I'm very proud of what our football team was able to accomplish this year. The only team that plays in a real BCS conference that went 12-0, which is very difficult to do, and I'm very proud of the way our players played."Real BCS conference? Wording can be easily misunderstood, but Saban is technically correct. Utah's Mountain West Conference is not a BCS conference. Utes coach Kyle Whittingham still chuckled when asked if he was used to comments like that. "Yeah, we are," Whittingham said, "and we don't let it bother us. Our mantra this year we can only control what we can control, and that is to go out and play our best football week-in and week-out. Our fate is in the hands of voters and computers and that type of thing. We just don't really worry about it. We didn't even mention BCS not one time all season long. Our job No. 1 was to try to win the Mountain West Conference, which we did outright." Note the title of that 12/7/08 blog: "So, who's excited about Utah?" The dierespect has been going on ever since it was announced. 3., 4. & 5. See my post about previous newsflashes. Have you ever considered appearing on the show, "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? You should -- I'd think you'd do well. Seriously. Link to comment https://www.aufamily.com/topic/55154-utah-felt-disrespected/#findComment-569931 Share on other sites
