He's been on CTT's short list for DCs every time we've hired one. I also know that every place he's been, he's dramatically improved their defense from what they were prior to his arrival. Stats may not be eye popping, but keep in mind the places he's coached: Minnesota, Duke, Georgia Tech. They do not have the caliber of players on defense that Auburn gets so I wouldn't expect them to put up numbers like our recent defenses have.

I know that he played linebacker in college and that he always coached linebackers as a position coach. At least, that is what the resume summary shows. Does that mean Willis could be moved to another position, such as DE coach? Or, will Roof coach the DBs? Anyone know?

Thank you. I feel much better about this hire now.

Any one know how Roof is viewed as a recruiter? Any more info on his schemes/style of play? I ask here because it sounds like some of you are pretty familiar with him.

Also, is the general assumption from every one that this will be CGC's D much like it was always xCTT's D?

Some quick stats to point out.

Ted Roof has been the DC at Minnesota for one season. The year before he got there, Minnesota's defensive stats:

Pass 289 ypg (ranked #115)

Rush 229 ypg (#114)

Total 518 ypg (#119)

Scoring 36.7 ppg (#109)

This year under CTR:

Pass 240 ypg (#93) improved by 49 ypg

Rush 143 ypg (#69) improved by 93 ypg

Total 383 ypg (#79) improved by 135 ypg

Scoring 24.8 ppg (#61) improved by 11.9 ppg

Similar situation at Duke. Year before CTR got there:

Pass 247 ypg (#89)

Rush 246 ypg (#113)

Total 492 ypg (#113)

Scoring 44.6 ppg (#114)

CTR's first year as DC at Duke:

Pass 255 ypg (#102) did worse by 8 yds per game

Rush 121 ypg (#28) improved by 126 ypg

Total 375 ypg (#65) improved by 117 ypg

Scoring 29.4 ypg (#83) improved by 15 ppg

That's dramatic improvement no matter how you slice it. And at two places where they don't get a surplus of great recruits and are not traditionally known for great defenses.

Ever seen TitanTiger & StatTiger in the same place at the same time? Didn't think so. ;)

Thanks! Any comparable info on his years as DC at GTech (circa 2000)? I think he was nominated for the Broyles Award (or whatever the best assistant coach award is called) one year . . .
