No question of SEC dominance

There have now been 12 national titles awarded since the BCS began in 1998. Of those 12, the SEC has played for 5 of them...and won all five.

1998 - Tennessee

2003 - LSU

2006 - Florida

2007 - LSU

2008 - Florida

In that same time period, Auburn went undefeated (2004) but had the misfortune of doing so in a year where the preseason top 2 also went undefeated in the regular season.

The SEC is also 12-5 in all BCS bowl games it has played in, easily the best conference record.

No other conference comes close to this level of dominance.

The SEC went 6-2 in bowls this year including wins over a 12-1 Oklahoma team by Florida and an 11-1 Texas Tech team by 8-4 Ole Miss in the Cotton Bowl. Every one of the wins came over teams that had equal or better records than the SEC team in the game. Both losses came to teams with better records than the SEC team they played. They went 2-0 vs the ACC, 2-0 vs the Big XII, 1-1 vs the Big Ten, 1-0 vs C-USA and 0-1 vs the Mountain West. This includes wins by 6-6 Vandy over ACC-runner up Boston College and a 38-3 tail kicking by a 7-5 LSU team over 9-3 Georgia Tech.

Maybe the Big XII looked flashier in the regular season, but when all the dust settled, even what was considered a "down year" for the SEC turns out not to have been very down at all. And it just goes to show again that the SEC is on a level all its own in college football.
