Embarrassing Stuff

Gotta agree with the man on this one - you don't have to necessarily play the sport to completely understand.

One thing I would've liked was a response: "Did you play football at Auburn?" The guy probably didn't. Then there is the level of playing. Would the guy had played HS, but not college. College, but not NFL. Pee-wee, but not HS, etc. So what was his point in the first place?

College sports is a fans game. And a lot more fans watch the game than those who actually played in it. And you can learn a lot without playing.

Example - I have learned so much about accounting and taxes and finances in the past year. But I am neither a finance nor an accounting major. But I run my fiance's business and do her taxes. I have great financial advice for those who need it. I don't know every thing ever in the accounting world, but I know a good amount for anyone starting up a small business. And for anyone that needs to learn how to manage their money. The point is - I learned. And fans can learn about football too.

These guys, Tim Brando included - you may or may not agree with their broadcasting or opinions, but they are intelligent. If they weren't, they wouldn't be in the positions they are today. And you can't please or make everybody agree on everything. There are countless articles I have read that make people say "Kevin Scarbinsky is a Bammer" and then countless articles of him making Auburn look good or Bama bad.

I know a crapload more about football now than I did 6 years ago. Tons.

If fans really didn't care about a person's opinion because they didn't "play the game" or because they think the person is a "Bammer homer" or whatever, they wouldn't read or listen. But they do. I guarantee you 99% of a radio or reading audience didn't play the game. And I bet you 80% of the professionals on the other side (either radio host, writer, etc) didn't play the game either. It's all about analysis and who can report it the best.

And most football players are not good commentators. Commentators are basically fans that are good at commentating and thus they get paid for it. Same with writers. They are good at writing and thus they get paid for it.

Good points by PC................. Is it just me, or did that caller sound like he didn't even graduate from high school, much less Auburn? That's pretty funny stuff.

A person can understand the game without ever playing, but unless you played, you will never understand the psychological aspect of the sport. That is why the best coaches in any sport are the the ones that at least played. They might not have been superstars or even starters, but they at least played the game.

For that matter, rarely does a superstar in a sport make a good coach at the same level. Isn't it odd that a less glorious position, such as a lineman, is the position that seems to generate the most head coaches from high school football all the way to the NFL?

How do we know the caller was an Auburn fan? Do we have a certain sound or tone?

I can call in and pretend to be any school's fan. "Hello Tim, I'm Bart, an Alabama grad, and quite frankly Tim, you suck."

"And by the way, you too, Paul."

From F-baum: "Hey, Paww, I'm an Awb, but I think Tubs oughta been fired a long time ago. They, I mean we, shoulda been embarrassed when they bought them national champ rings a few years ago. I wish they, I mean we, had hired a better coach like Saban. He's a real good recruiter, and he's at least won a national championship".

Brando used profanity, unprofessional.

Brando accused someone else of having an agenda, hypocrisy.

Brando was on Finebaum, unconscionable.

Brando unleashed his ego with the, "I am the guest on this show." Uh, so is the caller.

No one was right in this situation.
