Tebow coming back

Tebow has a chance to be remembered as one of the top 5 NCAA players of all time, so him coming back is smart.

That said, everyone else (Harvin, Spikes) that goes pro is making the right decision.

Not so sure about Spikes. Reports say he's told a few he's returning.

That may be, and if he does, it will be the wrong decision.

Other than a situation like Tebow has, every player who wins a MNC should go pro. Anything could happen in the next season to them and they have accomplished everything they can at this level.

Not surprising at all...I get the impression that the kid really likes being in college, much like Peyton Manning did, and I don't think the NFL is the #1 thing on his radar screen.

Just saw this on my home page for Brighthouse

By MARK LONG - AP Sports Writer

GAINESVILLE, Fla.(AP) Tim Tebow started to walk off stage, then called an audible. The Florida quarterback turned around, grabbed the microphone and told teammates, coaches and fans exactly what they wanted to hear.

"Oh, by the way, let's do it again. I'm coming back," Tebow said.

Tebow thrilled more than 40,000 at the school's national championship celebration Sunday by announcing plans to return for his senior season, with hopes of leading the Gators to their first undefeated season and fourth national title.

"Overall, I just felt loyal to this place," Tebow said. "I feel like I'm a role model, and a lot of times people start things and don't finish them. I didn't want to be like that. I wanted to be loyal to the university. I wanted to finish what I started and play another year."

Tebow threw 32 touchdown passes in 2007, ran for 23 more scores and became the first sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy. He did less this season, but accomplished more by leading Florida to its second national title in three years.

Tebow completed 64 percent of his passes for 2,746 yards with 30 touchdowns and four interceptions. He also led the team in rushing for the second straight year, gaining 673 yards and scoring 12 touchdowns.

The 6-foot-3, 240-pound left-hander was 18-of-30 passing for 231 yards, with two and two interceptions in Thursday night's 24-14 victory against Oklahoma in the Bowl Championship Series title game. He also ran for 109 yards, most of it in the second half.

There was speculation he might head to the NFL, especially since he has talked about wanting a bigger platform to share his religious message and expand his community work, but Tebow said he never strongly considered leaving early.

Coach Urban Meyer set him up with several NFL coaches to talk about his pro prospects. Although Tebow said he got mixed feedback, nothing he heard swayed his decision.

Any word on Harvin?

Just a thought, but after slapping Urban Meyer on the butt Harvin might be well advised to get out of town. :big:

You can't put the tater on the carpet in Florida.

I guess I am one of the few Tebow fans. I will be glad to see him at Florida for another year. He is fun to watch. If he goes to the NFL, who knows when we see him on the field again.

Then again.. Maybe the Panthers could have recruited him.. Looked like they needed a new QB the game the other night. heh

Next year will be the most pass happy year florida will have ever. Meyer will try to get Tebow to become a pocket passer to show his talent and get him a better position in the 2010 draft.

The mold Tebow project begins now and for his NFL prospects I hope he can overcome a bad throwing motion and some ugly passing techniques.

IMO, Tebow is a second round pick. And that may be being generous. Alex Smith was better prepared for the Pro's than Tebow will be, and we all saw how that turned out.

I, for one, am glad to see Tebow coming back. I have no ill-will towards him whatsoever. He's a class act all the way around. It's a special time in College Football that we get to see a player of his magnitude compete.

That being said, I HATE CBS's unabashed man-crush they have on this guy. I truly believe the things I listed above, but that stuff shouldn't weigh into the USC v. UGA game one iota. There's no need to bring him up a minimum of once per commercial break. Jus-sayin...
