When I read this topic, he was the first name that came to mind. I hated losing him ON THE FIRST PLAY of the season. Kid is a burner. Hope his hands are softer than Wrights, heh.

Wright had decent hands. and he is a burner but i doubt he is as fast as ACE was. ACE was the fastest man in the NFL for a long time. In fact i doubt there has been a man in the pro's or college that could catch ACE back in his hay day!

You know what else couldn't catch Wright? A Reggie Slack pass ;)

Man the guy would just blow by people and be standing in the endzone alone. I loved Slack, one of my top 3 Auburn qbs ever, but we'd have scored 100 more points that season if he could have gotten to Wright half the times he was open deep.

Didn't UF have an Olympic sprinter that quit the team to concentrate on track?

Im not sure, i know that Florida has perhaps the most overall team speed in the SEC. But here's a little snippit on ACE!

December 22, 1991, he set a Cowboys record, still standing, for longest play with a 102-yard kick return[5] Wright was one of the fastest sprinters in the NFL, winning the NFL's "Fastest Man" competition in 1990 and 1991.[4] In May 1991 he was recorded to have run the 40 yard dash in 4.09 seconds.

That's Jefferey Demps fast... UF running back clocked a 10.01 100-meter dash last year. He's the fastest player in the country right now, including the NFL.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Mario Fannin will do now that we don't have a coaching staff that automatically thinks he can't play because he can't block better than a FB.

In May 1991 he (Wright) was recorded to have run the 40 yard dash in 4.09 seconds.

That's Superman fast.

More like impossible. I never trust "folk-tale" 40-yard dash statements, especially ones from old players...who was timing? Was it hand timed (99% likely to be yes)? Where was it run? etc.

Fannin's shoulder probably was not up to par last year. I think the coaches tried to save hits to it. When pass blocking what do you use to make sure to make the block? The shoulder. Why would a coach take a chance on a player with a rebuilt shoulder-especially when he doesnt have the ball in his hand?

Barrett Trotter is the player I'm most looking forward to seeing play. During the practice sessions I observed last August, Trotter executed consistently and demonstrated a live arm. He is the one player that I feel will benefit most from Malzahn's tutelege. May the best man win the position.

He'll probably fumble the ball some more.

Metafour it does not surprise me that you would doubt the speed of ACE! Between you and PCchamp you two run a neck and neck race to see who is the biggest pessimists. What if I told you he was clocked in a Nfl competition that determined the fastest man in the nfl? Ace was faster than The little guy for LSU Trendon Holiday he was faster than Neon Deion Sanders, would make Cady, Ronnie, Fannin, Tim Carter, Vincent Jackson and any other Auburn player before or since look like a lineman . How old are you? How long have you been watching Auburn Football? If you are as old as i am and you have been watching Auburn football as long as i have you would know how fast ACE was and you would not doubt the 4.09 40yrd.

Ben Tate, I miss North-South running....

The line needs to do a much better job for a back like Tate. He needs to have a hole to hit and isn't the type of back to make his own hole. Fannin can make his own holes and can make cuts that Tate just can't make.

I think Wright was an All-American in track as well. He was blazing fast. My numbers may be a little off, but one game in '89 against a fodder team (Pacific maybe?) he had 5 catches for 256 yards, 4 tds. That's from my foggy memory... I might try to look it up. ;)

Don't know if your memory may be foggy, but the mugs are just right!
