BZ770 2
I have a stepson whom I got on allkids last year. I applied a couple of times, because the companies I was working for didn't have Health Ins. and my wife's job didn't offer it either. He was on it this last year and I went from paying $130 dollars a month for his PX to $3 for his ADD meds. I have a good job now that offers affordable insurance, and we reapplied. THey sent me a letter saying that we need to get medicaid. After calling them they thought my wife made 5.50 an hour instead of 550 bring home every two weeks. I may be a hypocrite but we are appealing the decision with a letter and a paystub. If rejected I'll get the family coverage which will cost me more, but the Allkids ins is better. They base the decision on what the wife makes and not the stepfather. As for the real father he's been out of touch for 5 years and pays no money or christmas presents or BDay presents. I split the bill for everything and have done so for 7 years. So what is your thoughts on if I'm a welfare recipient or I'm just getting better insurance for my stepson and not having to pay more out of my pockets. I'm sure I'll get ripped for this but I truly believe that if the company you work for offers insurance you should get that and forgo the government sponsored variety. It is one thing for tax payers to pay for health care for children whose parents either don't have it offered through work or who are not able to afford what is available because of extremely low pay. But you stated that the insurance at your work was affordable. I resent paying for people who can afford to pay for themselves. And don't say "but he's my step-son". You made the choice to marry his mom knowing that she had a small child so you made the choice to support him (and hopefully love him as your own). This isn't meant to be a blast, but you did ask. Grumps 3,706
If you didn't think it was a little shady to have him on Allkids when you can afford to put him on your insurance then you would not be seeking our approval. It appears that you have the option of doing it either way, so do what you are comfortable with. tiger88 934
My .o2 is that to take advantage of the gumint stuff isnt so bad seeings how he is your stepson and you are already taking on expenses that are helping he and your wife and the government. One thing that sucks about gubmint stuff is that the people who bust their ass and work rarely get any help. Seems like this is a case where you can get a little help and if your okay with it go for it.
