SouthLink02 8
I mean, I think the staff is good but it really doesn't scare me that bad Lane seems like a young upstart but all the HC experience he has is a failed stint with the Raiders and 2 years at OC for USC. Of course the Raiders may not be his fault but anyway it is sliced, it wasn't successful. Lane's dad is one of the best minds for D but even he admitted in an Orlando Sentinal article last week that he wasn't sure how long he would be DC or how much he could keep up with recruiting. That says something, imo. Ed O is a great recruiter but he is not a great coach technique wise and the Saints players/coaches hated him here. There are still many important positions to be fired It looked BETTER than what Fulmer had but I don't really see it as anywhere close to being the best in the SEC alone until they produce as such Link to comment https://www.aufamily.com/topic/55488-give-the-sec-warning/#findComment-573434 Share on other sites
DKW 86 8,246
From Volchat. http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=7&f=1372&t=3782728 Besides head coach Kiffin being a great recruiter and acknowledged by many astute observers to be the one who loaded up Southern Cal with bluechippers galore, let's look at who else we have on staff before answering. Kiffin's previous hires for Tennessee include: 1) Highly rated recruiting coordinator David Reaves from USC. 2) Recognized recruiting ace Ed Orgeron from the N.O. Saints. 3) Jim Chaney from the St. Louis Rams. Chaney was recruiting coordinator at Purdue from 1997-2001, when he got a top 10 recruiting class EVERY year he was there. (And I won't even mention Monte Kiffin, who's name alone will garner a few of the nation's top 10 defensive players - each and every year.) According to the publisher of BamaMag, Lance Thompson is “particularly well known for his recruiting ability.†His most heralded signees include 5-star receiver Julio Jones (Foley, Ala.), 5-star athlete Burton Scott (Prichard, Ala.) and 4-star quarterback Star Jackson (Lake Worth, Fla.). Lance was recruiter extraordinaire at LSU in 2003 under Saban, and it’s rather obvious from what we've seen in the talent he personally reeled in for the Tigers.....many of whom played on their National Championship team last season. Thompson was the recruiter on getting 10 players (yes, I said 10) to commit to the Tide's 2008 signing class that was rated No. 1 nationally…..and earning Mr. Thompson the distinction of being named THE #1 Recruiter in the nation last season. The hiring of Thompson should improve Tennessee's chances of swaying quarterback A.J. McCarron of Mobile, since Thompson was THE recruiter who convinced McCarron to commit to the Tide. The Vols have no quarterbacks committed for their class of 2009, so McCarron is considered to be a prime target. Plus, there are many others that Lance has built a relationship with, who I’m sure he can easily sway many of to switch their commitment to Tennessee. Relationships: Hey folks we have it here now with this man. Along with the other awesome recruiters on staff, we just may be shocked on signing day. AUman43 5
Congratulations on a great staff, but don't count Chizik's staff out either. They'll also be after some of the commits that Thompson and Steele were after as well. It's shaping up that Auburn and UT will have one of the more impressive staffs in the SEC. I thought that Chizik should have kept TWO coaches from Tuberville's staff: Willis and Gran. Well, one out of two ain't bad, but Gran is a real asset to whatever program he's working for. I felt the same way when Chizik was first hired. Gran seems to be a first class guy as well as a fine coach. It will be hard to see him on the opposing sideline. With all that said, I think we have landed on our feet with Luper. A few years from now we may be wanting to hang onto Luper just as much as we wanted to hang onto Gran. Geauxtigahs11 1
I aint scurrrrrred Yaw Yaw is a good, not great coach. USC's recruiting improved when he left, and Slink is right; the Saints really weren't fond of him.
