i know its way early to even be talking prerankings but it does show who the sports columnist are already promoting. With that It looks like Ole Miss with big final win over Texas Tech game themselves a buzz going into next season. I believe they can win the west and should probably be front runners out of the gate but to think of them as a top 5 in same breathe as Florida, texas,OU and USC just will take some time getting use to. There is always that one media loved team to fall and fall hard just look at us this past season started ninth finished ........

I think Ole Miss would take 10-3

absolutely. it will be interesting to see how the team handles actually being good and having a good season. and we're not talking a good season by Ole Miss standards, i mean a good season. i think CHN has brought a whole new dimension to that team, and i'm sure they feel great about themselves.

i bet they go 1-4 in the west alone next year.

and you also thought AU would destroy all and make a serious run at the MNC in 08, and that Alabama would end up in Shreveport if we were lucky. you are far from clairvoyant.

Bama might have had a chance if they had gone to Shreveport. But the way they played it's a big IF.

They would have brought their A game if they hadn't had to stay up all night studying for their :ua: rchitecture finals.

i bet they go 1-4 in the west alone next year.

And I think that is the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

What do you want to bet?

You may think it is stupid, but I don't agree. Houston Nutt has had trouble keeping a good team. By that I mean, he'll be good for a year, maybe two, then boom, back in the cellar he goes. We'll see, but I don't think they'll be that good next year. I think they'll find a way to lose. And no, I won't bet. I don't bet on football.

yeah and everyone predicted uat and au to have the seasons they had...... what were the preseason rankings again?

Nutt has the tendency to have let down seasons after good ones. Wins when he's not supposed to and loses when he's not supposed to. The SECW is going to be a lot better next year with AU, LSU & Arky all putting better teams on the field.

I could see Ole Miss finally breaking through to Atlanta next year with the talent they have.

But given Nutt's history, I could also see him coaching them out of it and going 8-4 again.

Good point. Nutt has a history of inconsistency.

I completely agree that Ole Miss could end up 8-4, just as easily as they are expected to go 10-2.

But 1-4 against the SEC West? Losing to LSU (who they beat), Auburn (who they beat), Arkansas (who they beat), and Alabama (who they came close to this past season, despite a rough first half, which loses 3 of the best players on offense). I just think that is crazy to predict that. And I will bet anything against it.

You think it is possible for them to lose 4 games, but not against he SECW? Have you looked at their schedule? They play Vandy, South Carolina, and Tennessee from the east. If you think they lose 4 games, how do these teams have a higher chance of beating them than any of the teams in the west?

I tend to agree with you, but look at that again:

They beat LSU and Auburn in down years. There is no guarantee they'll face equally struggling squads from either again this year.

They beat us and Arkansas rather narrowly. If Auburn had any offense at all (or if Kodi doesn't have three essentially unforced turnovers), we win that game.

While I find it unlikely they'd lose to LSU, AU, AL and Arky next year, it's not like it's completely crazy to think it could happen.

Titan you mentioned the same things I have thought (I just didn't feel like writing it down). So I completely agree with you.

I guess I just see Ole Miss with the Eli Manning / Jason Campbell / Matt Flynn / Chris Leak / Eric Ainge / JPW of the SEC West next year. They have the senior QB. Generally the team with the best QB, especially if it is a year with not many other good QBs to compete against, goes to Atlanta (I know Eli never went, but they still had a good team in '03 and I know Eric Ainge and Chris Leak were in the East - they were just similar examples). And WarMatt - Mallet better than Snead?

Though it is possible - and I agree LSU will be much better, as should Auburn and perhaps Arkansas - like Titan said I just don't see a team with that much skill losing 4 out of 5 in the division. But then again Auburn did it this past season. But I guess I just love a team with a strong QB. A team with a strong QB will win most games. Auburn didn't have a strong QB, neither did LSU. That's why the two teams with good players didn't perform well this past season.

So I stick by my initial thought - what is the bet that Ole Miss goes 1-4 in the West? Cuz I am very confident it won't happen.

trust me brother. go back and look at his freshman year at Michigan and look at the turnaround from Dick with 1 year under Petrino. that sounds bad. B)

Doesn't always pan out, but they have 17 returning starters.

As always, a lot depends on injuries, true freshmen & rsf, and which way that pigskin bounces.

Sincerely - Captain Obvious

Good point!

When I first read that, I was wondering illegal motion or position #724?

The lose of Michael Oher is also going to be a huge factor.

Speaking of, I saw 3 different reports on Oher's Senior Bowl

2 were not so good while the 3rd was glowing

Weird
