Satan Strikes Again

IMHO...Saban saw an opportunity to: 1) deflect the heat from losing Thompson to UT 2) As a stop gap, get a recruiter that has at least talked to the players/coaches in the Mobile area 3) Totally disrupt AU's recruiting plan for this year and maybe next since Willis knows who AU is targeting.

I can understand Willis being upset if a bunch of new guys are hired at a higher salary. I can understand looking for an opportunity to get out of town if I felt I was done wrong. But, timing is everything, and I would not have done this to an institution that gave me so much over the years...I would have stuck it out (for $200,000+) for the year and looked for a better opportunity next year. Heck, if I did a good job next year I might come back to my boss with some leverage to get my salary boosted and, if AU didn't come across, I could leave with no hard feelings on either part with a bridge intact rather than one that has now been incinerated.

I seriously doubt that Willis will be a long term part of the UAT staff. I expect him to be out the door next year with few options for immediate employment unless Muschamp fleets up to HC at Texas.
