GoAU 1,712
Obama was the first President in over 50 years to skip the Medal of Honor Ball. OldNewby 27
There were 48 Medal of Honor recipients in attendance One of them lives across the street. He took four days of his daily life to go to DC and freeze his butt off. Obama is not fit to breath the same air as my neighbor. autiger4life 3
OldNewby, I have searched everywhere I can including forums on Hannity's site and I can't find one credible source saying that Obama skipped it. I'm not saying he did, but if you google it you don't get one major paper or a major news network saying he skipped it, including Fox, O'Reily, Hannity, etc. I did find a list of all the balls listed and this one is not listed on there. http://dc.about.com/od/specialevents/a/inauguralballs.htm He did go to the Commander inCheif Ball that had 300 veterans or current actives from Walter Reed http://www.stripes.com/article.asp?section...p;article=60160 Here is a picture of MOH awardees at the CiC ball, so they were at this one and invited as well http://www.stripes.com/photos/60160_121154553.jpg Among those seated below the podium were 40 Medal of Honor recipients, including Peter Lemon, who at 19 had shown superhuman courage, fighting on and on as his comrades fell around him, as he himself was repeatedly wounded in Vietnam.†“This is the biggest thing that happened to me in my 58 years that’s positive!†Lemon declared of the inauguration. Also present was Gary Wetzel, who had fought even after losing his left arm. He had finally lost consciousness, but when he awoke, he crawled through fire to aid a fellow crew member on his downed helicopter. “In the White House by President Johnson,†he said when asked when he had received his medal. Wetzel declared that we must all rally around his new President with much the same all-American spirit that he himself had shown that bloody day in Vietnam. “He means business, and we’ve got to support him,†Wetzel said. “We’ve got to pull together.†Next to the Medal of Honor recipients were the Tuskegee Airmen. Among them was Julius Freeman, now from Long Island, formerly of the 332nd Fighter Group. “We had two Air Forces,†Freeman said. “A black Air Force and a white Air Force, and now we’re going to be one country.†“Today you become an American!†the woman beside him said. Up at the podium, 30 rows from their place of honor, Obama invoked the noble example of our heroes past and present. “We honor them not only because they are guardians of our liberty, but because they embody the spirit of service: a willingness to find meaning in something greater than themselves,†Obama said. “It is precisely this spirit that must inhabit us all.†http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2...ur_deeply_.html That one is actually from the Daily News Also the CiC ball is fairly new so I think it may be replacing the American Legions which is the one being referred to in this thread. Once again, all I am saying is there really have been no credible sources making a stink about this especially not ones that normally would like O'Reilly Link to comment https://www.aufamily.com/topic/55821-obama-skips-medal-of-honor-ball/#findComment-577277 Share on other sites

Overall, Mike was disappointed with what he witnessed in DC during the Inauguration. In his opinion, the racial divide is widening, not narrowing as he had been lead to believe. He and many others were extremely disappointed that President Obama did not stop by the Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball for a moment to at least say hello. Two of the most disappointed were men who had actually worked during the campaign for Obama. Mike and many other honorees felt that President Obama missed a golden oportunity. He blew it, iow. According to Mike, the the CiC Ball is fairly new, and is more for the members of the military serving in the DC area who perform services like guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, parades, the Joint Chiefs and staffs. In summation, Mike returned from DC feeling that the Executive & Legislative Branches of our government have nothing for the American people. He heard a lot of empty words, flowery language, etc. However, according to Mike, there's just no there there. I am sure that I would be upset as well, and with 10 official balls that Obama attended I wish it had been made a priority that MOH recipients were seen by Obama. I will see that all reports I read said that family members of any killed soldier in Iraq was invited to the CiC, and there were dozens of MOH recipients in attendance. Once again, I would completely understand your neighbors anger, but I don't think it is Obama blowing off the military and saying he doesn't care. Maybe you should have tried this. I didn't say that I couldn't find an article on it TM, as usual your reading skills have failed you. I said I was unable to find a real credible source that talked about such as cnn, foxnews, abc, etc. The top three results are democraticunderground forums, the cleavlandleader.com and thisainthell.us.blogspot. Not exactly a glaring list of media outlets. Link to comment https://www.aufamily.com/topic/55821-obama-skips-medal-of-honor-ball/#findComment-577514 Share on other sites

My reading skills are fine, just because the MSM which has been in the tank for Obama for over two years doesn't want to report this is no indicaiton whatsoever that it wasn't news or news worthy. I agree with you to a certain extent. But when 95% of the stories from it are from blogs or forums then it makes sense to ask why no one in the MSM including Fox, Hannity, and O'Reilly are upset about it. O'Reilly and Hannity always make big deals about the military being snubbed by the democrats so for this not to be on the main page is rather surprising and raises the question of why they didn't think it was worth talking about. Once again, I never said I didn't think it was true, I just pointed out that it was rather odd and casted a shadow that nothing major had picked it up. My reading skills are fine, Then why when I say this: OldNewby, I have searched everywhere I can including forums on Hannity's site and I can't find one credible source saying that Obama skipped it.
