Woops...let one slip away

(Wasn't someone making fun of us for TAKING one from USM not long ago?)

Yeah, it had nothing to do with the depth chart at CB.

Is Saban losing his so-called Mobile magic? Long time commit WR/DB Gerald West of Faith Academy, Mobile says he is going to Southern Miss.

But wait....here come the bammers to explain. Who is first?

You can pretty much write it for them with the following pre-fab reasons on all recruiting matters:

"___________ decommitted because Saban has someone better lined up as a silent commit."

"We're rolling 5 deep at ___________, so he went where he could crack the lineup."

Oh, and don't forget the perfunctory bammer response to Auburn decommits:

"No one wants to play at Auburn."

So, just to recap: Bammer loses commits only because of their insanely superior depth or because Saban has some 5-star he wants more. Auburn loses them because we're a second-rate program that good players never take seriously or only commit to until the offer they really want comes in.

His mother heard that CNS is having a probation officer pre-assigned to all new freshmen players. It cuts down on the number of lost time due to pesky hearings down the road. She apparently felt that her son would be better suited away from CNS's powerful discipline.

Yeah yeah yeah.

We're coming down to the wire on DB commits and they include the #1 CB in the nation, the #2 CB in the nation, the #4 CB in the nation.

And you think we lost Gerald West because he didn't wanna play here. So he decided to go to Southern Miss.

That's logical.

Of all the CBs we are looking at, 3 can go to any school in the country, the other one just switched to southern miss. Which one is the exception to the rule?

We'll see. You may not get any of them. You had one in hand that had offers from Auburn, Florida, FSU and others. But you told him you didn't need him anymore.

All I'm saying is, it's amazing how much this very conversation plays out from you guys. It's like no one ever decommits from you because they had a change of heart or like someone else better. It's always how you've got someone better, or Saban decided to go in another direction...it's always YOUR decision, not theirs. And of course, you just reverse that logic when talking about Auburn. It's always Auburn wanting them and getting told no. Just funny, that's all.

That's logical, since you will only get one out of those three top-ranked players. I'm sure West knew you were getting Dre back when he committed as well.

On another front, some within the Auburn program have said Alabama is better off without West, based on some personal issues. They didn't elaborate on those issues, if they are even real, but I trust their opinion. Although, if you're better off without him, I wish he was still committed there. :)

On this same line, I've heard Bama is the preseason number three of the Fulmer Cup rankings.

Geez, I'm surprised BG03 showed up first. I would have bet it would be RWS.

He's trying to rehab his image. He was becoming tolerable there for a while.

We need to develop an AUN Fantasy League. Each time there is a thread everyone picks their favorite rival and whichever canned response they think they'll use and you score points on whomever is the first to respond and which response they use.

Who wants to be the commish?

We've been playing this game for a looong time already. We just haven't publicized it. RWS has made me a freakin' millionaire. :roflol:

MAN... this is completely unacceptable.. I can not take this. This recruiting class is worthless now and someone needs to apprehend whoever responsible...

I could stand losing what could be the best running back in the nation, the best tackle, or even the best cornerback/safety..

But losing a 3* corner back is just killing me and I can't take it anymore.. someone please fix this madness... now I have to go cry over this hoping that on signing day we could steal one of those recruits AU "did not want and passed on" to Ole Miss.. PLEASE GOD, GRANT ME THAT WISH..

Do you expect anything less? It's what they do. Typical uat double standard.

Funny also, according to BG, they still are in the running for the #2 DB in the country, but good ole RIVALS...uat's favorite recruiting service and has the #2 DB already committed to LSU. Now, could it be that good ole rivals has shuffled their list a little after the #2 DB committed to a uat rival? I guess uat and satan didn't have room for the #2 DB either, huh? It couldn't possibly be the PLAYER that made the decision to sign elsewhere...NEVER...

I say we are in the running, because he was in Tuscaloosa for an official visit...THIS WEEKEND.

Nice try though.

Did anybody stop to think that West wasn't going to make the grades to get in to UA? It would explain why he didn't explore his other options since he was offered by AU, UF, USC, and MSU. We need somebody to step into the CB position right away, and there is no sense in wasting a scholarship on a kid who won't make the grades when we have some talent on campus and talent signing in a few days. He was told what he needed to do in the classroom to get in to UA and he didn't do it. Think Deandre Brown. Not a big deal, and I hope he does well at USM.

Grades could be the reason but I have no idea, so I really shouldn't sseculate. But he is from Mobile and So Miss is a lot closer to Mobile than anywhere else he might sign. Other than South Alabama. ;) A lot of kids in the Mobile area attend SOMISS, he may have friends there.

From what I have heard, academics was the main factor involved here. It's the same reason Whitehead ended up at Louisville a couple years ago and why Brown is a USM now. C-USA can get'em in, where the SEC can't.

Same thing I have heard. He didn't seem to put the effort in to improving his grades. I don't take it as fact, but it would make sense.
