I voted for LSU as I believe their defense wasn't as big of an issue as their QB was. QB made it hard for the D to keep them in the game. After watching that kid in the Chick-Fil-A-Bowl go off, I don't see anyone in the West taking out LSU. As far as the :au::homer: that voted for us to win the West, I Love You Man but remember this: our schedule is the ever so difficult odd year with road games at LSU, UT, Arky, & UGA. With this schedule and us coming into '09 riding on major coaching changes and lack of strong leadership on O, I just don't see it happen'n. Sure, Kodi might surprise, a star may blossom at WR, and of course we should have tons of promise in Fannin and our O-Line yes, but these if's in the scenario of a brand new bunch of coaches doesn't lead me to have tons of realistic hope.(Besides-I think I used all my "This is our year, pre-season hope energy up on AU-'08 <_< ),

I'm calling 7-5 or 8-4 a likely possibility(at best split road games and toss up's for Ole Miss, Bama, & WV)- anything better will be a banner year on the Plains....I think we need to look at '10 as the next possible season for expectations to see Atlanta and a BCS Bowl.

My humble $.02

My vote right now goes to ole miss, simply because of all that they have coming back. I dont see LSU finishing any better next year than they were last year. I like to think we will improve a good bit, but who knows. uat lost a ton on the offensive side of the ball and will likely struggle on offense. After ole miss, I have no idea as to the order of finish just yet.

As of right now I see Ole Miss as the team to beat in the West with the experience they have coming back. I could see LSU turning some heads if their QB continues to improve.

I voted for LSU, but I'm not sure I believe it. I just don't buy Ole Miss the way I should. Something tells me last year was a peak for Nutt... not the uptick. Odd thing is, a 5-3 record could win the West next year, but I'm betting someone finds their way to 6-2... LSU seems the best bet.

Prediction for the early season predictions:

1. Ole Miss (only team with a returning QB that be put in the same sentence as the word "good" without a negative in front of it)

2. LSU (more talented overall than Ole Miss; more work to do to make it work)

3. Alabama (I could see lower; I could see tied for second; I can't see them winning the West)

4. Auburn (we are a mystery so this is fair)

5. Arkansas (this would be a good finish for them; this is STILL the least talented SEC team outside of Nashville)

6. MSU (Mullen could shock a few people with a win here or there)

Prediction for the early season predictions:

1. Ole Miss

2. LSU

3. Alabama

4. Auburn

5. Arkansas

Call me a homer if you must, but I think we finish better than fourth in the West. (Although I realize your parenthetical comments give plenty of room for uncertainty, too.) I don't see Ole Miss, LSU, AND Bama all finishing ahead of us. I think we catch at least one of them as one of them under performs. If forced to pick which right now, I'd say Bama has the most questions because of QB/O-line (even more so if they change OC's, as per gossip-mills). But I'm not predicting us to Atlanta, either--our road schedule makes anything over 3rd pretty miraculous.

My purely speculative guess would be:

1) LSU

1b) Ole Miss (a close push here)

3) Auburn

4) Bama (also a close push at #3/#4)

I think Petrino/Arky is the biggest unknown...I could see them almost anywhere between #2 & #6, but more likely near the bottom.

I agree with your predictions. We are a mystery team, but with competent, young, energetic coaches who are hungry, I predict that we will be the surprise team in the SEC West next year. Overall, I think Tennessee and Georgia will be in the mix but without veteran QB's I would be surprised if they are a factor in the race. Same for Bammer. Florida will be strong again and it wouldn't surprise me if it comes down to Florida or Ole Piss or LSU play for the SEC Championship. Same for Bammer. If Kodi gets some GOOD coaching, I believe we have the talent to rebound strongly. JMO

I'm confident.

I like our talent, but I also like our schedule. We trade a road game at Georgia for a home game against South Carolina. Arkansas, LSU, and Tennessee also come to Tuscaloosa. Ole Miss could be a tough one on the road.

I don't know about going 8-0 again, but I see us repeating as the champs of the West.

I think Bama is in for the shock of all shocks. $aban is GREAT at cashing in when his turn comes. That's his M.O. as a coach. When there is an opening, he busts the door down. But the flip side to that is that he's just average when his team isn't properly positioned. Look at his time at LSU. Solid start, SEC title, down year, National title, down year. The guy has never put together back to back years with less than 3 losses. I very, very seriously doubt this will be the first time.

Off the cuff, I'd say VaTech should be favored, LSU should be favored, Ole Miss should be favored. I'd say Auburn (on the road) is a toss up. I'd throw in UT (home), UK (road), and MSU (road) as very lose-able games where Bama should be favored. I don't think Bama wins the West... like I said, I'll go anywhere from 2nd to 4th.

All you said is very possible. When you play in a conference like this, nothing can be taken for granted.

I put LSU first for the West. BUT that said, I do think Auburn will give them a run for their money.

1. LSU

2. Auburn

3/4. Ole Miss/Alabama - this is fitting: the two are interchangeable!

5. Arkansas

6. Mississippi State

Its still way too early to tell but on paper Ole Miss is the team to beat.

Here's my order right now, which could change from now until August:

1) Ole Miss

2) Auburn

3) Alabama

4) LSU

5) Arkansas

6) MSU

I just want to know who the kool-aid drinking cornbread eatin homers are? Who's brave enough to admit to it and has a compelling reason to believe their convictions?

I voted for LSU, but it isn't out of the question for Auburn to lead the west. If we get the luck that LSU has had or the no injuries that Alabama had the past year............

If ifs and buts were candy and nuts blah blah blah blah blah

I voted for Ole Miss at the moment but the race for the West is as wide-open as any year that I can remember

- Ole Miss - The least questions, imo. 9 starters back on O, 8 starters back on D. I agree with those who think they are being over-hyped but I still think 10-2 is a possibility for them with Snead coming back.

- MSU is a question mark...Mullen will install the O but he is starting over talent-wise, imo, and with a team that has run an offense NOWHERE NEAR what he wants to run. It may take him another year to pull an upset

- Arkansas....well, not sure really. Starting over at QB and boy did they look soft in big games last season. Not sure that will translate into a good '09 season.

- LSU - I am not sold on Jefferson just yet being a QB that will lead them to an SEC Title. I am sure every LSU fan will use his bowl game as some sort of reason for season-long success in '09 but I am not buying it yet as Tech's D was terrible and using just 1 game for predicting a season is never a smart play. Their D will improve but I think they still lose 3 games.

- Bama - I got them going 8-4/9-3. Their D will again be solid but they have QB issues and will be the hunted for the entire year.

- AU - Too many questions for me to know so I will say 8-4/9-3 as well. If Gus turns AU's O into a machine, maybe 10-2. I doubt your D suffers any with Gene back

1. LSU - most overall talent, and the schedule turns in their favor this year

2. Ole Miss - solid returning Sr. QB, loaded at RB, good talent stepping-up along the LOS

3. Alabama - needs an answer at QB, but otherwise solid

T4. Auburn - difficult schedule, several questions to be answered, most notably at QB & LB

T4. Arkansas - Petrino's teams usually improve year-over-year, hopefully not at our expense

6. MSU - not enough depth to compete

I just want to know who the kool-aid drinking cornbread eatin homers are? Who's brave enough to admit to it and has a compelling reason to believe their convictions?

Hey I am a major kool aid drinker and proud of it. Guess what i don't have to have a reason it's just what I believe b/c no matter what if AU is in the poll I will ALWAYS vote for them!
