WarEagle99 0
Flying back from the ice storm of '09, in Indiana last week, I ended up sitting between a fellow AU grad and an Iowa State grad. Once we figured out allegiances we listened to the ISU grad rave support for Chizik for the hour flight to ATL. He is an ISU season ticket holder and feels that Chizik is one of the best there is. He said that Chizik started new traditions in Ames where they now have 2 games where kids come out on the field pregame and give the players high-fives coming out to warm-up... and then one game a year where the kids come down to get autographs after the game. He went on and on about the way that Chizik gets every ounce of ability from his players and even though his recruiting classes were not great it is not because of his recruiting. This ISU grad just talks about how cold it is in Iowa and any player worth their weight thinks that OK or NEB is first choice and Iowa is second with ISU as an afterthought for underweight talent or would-be walk-ons. I have been supporting our hiring of Chizik and he has not disappointed with his recruiting so far, but this kind of talk from people that have actually seen what he can do carries salt. WDE I've been trying to tell everyone this was a good hire. Chizik had NO chance at ISU. Their W-L went backwards, but he was fixing a really bad program. He ran off several thugs. Rhoades has inherited a much better team than Chizik did at ISU. rexbo 104
I heard him speak at an Auburn Club when he was DC, I was pretty impressed then and something told me he would be a head coach real soon. I think that he primarily got this job on the interview, he certainly has an outgoing, can-do attitude. If he lets the OC and DC coaches do their job on the field, and in the off-season he maintains control of recruiting and everything else swirling around the externals of the program; I think Auburn will be pretty successful... WarEagle99 0
I didn't intend on stirring the deadbeats (bammars) in our midst, just passing along some of the positive comments from somebody that has actually watched Chizik coach at ISU. By the way, this ISU fan is a black guy and I would pay for him to meet with Bigmouth Barkley. I firmly think that this administration did what they should have done... TT was running through coordinators because he refused to get rid of the REAL problems like Knox. They did interview all candidates that seemed qualified and people keep forgetting how a hiring process works - Step 1 - Accept/request resumes Step 2 - Review resumes Step 3 - Conduct interviews Step 4- HIRE BASED ON INTERVIEWS Nobody hires based on resumes! WHO did you want hired? Link to comment https://www.aufamily.com/topic/55932-very-high-on-chizik/#findComment-578348 Share on other sites
AUman43 5
I wouldn't worry about Barkley anymore. He's lost whatever credibility he MAY have once had with his ranting, drinking, gambling, and screwing around on his wife. This man is done for as far as an influence on Auburn or anyone. He did it to himself. Compare him to Shaq at LSU. This man is a credit to his race and to his school, albeit LSWHO. tiger88 934
Why must several doofuses jump on every pro-chizik thread to state that he hasn't won any games here yet and that will be the true test? Friedchickenman 0
I was not a Chizik supporter either when he was hired..all I'm going to say though is that I am shocked at how well he has done in recruiting so far considering our circumstances and how good NSD could possibly be for us. That's to go along with his coordinator hires so far, which have so far been some of the best hires that have ever been brought in from a coordinator standpoint here at Auburn. I'm looking forward to this next year guys, we may still not win that much but I've got a feeling Auburn football is going to be exciting again, and especially within a few years. That is competely differentthan what people are getting excited about. They are getting excited because he is proving that he will be relentless in everything he does and that started showing with his assistant hires and has continued to show with his recruiting. It is very different than the Saban situation, Auburn fans were very skeptical the day we hired Chizik, but he is proving to be more worthy every day. We are still skeptical about on field results, but I see no reason to not be excited by what he has brought to the table over the past month. The difference is that we are all AU fans pulling for the same program with the exception of a few trolls here and there. I'm not mad at anyone for being a skeptic. Start a skeptic thread or two. It just irks me a little when every freaking thread that starts out with positivity about the coaching change ends up with several negative nancys trying to rain on the parade by stating the obvious, that chizik will mainly be measured by his teams performance on the field. Everyone freaking knows that. It's not like they are enlightening anyone or providing fresh insight into anything. I just want to buy them a huge block of cheese to go with their whine. The fact of the matter is that so far things look really good for the new staff. Excellent hires have been made. A class that it was feared would fall apart due to ctt leaving has been shored up and possibly strengthened. That is impressive to say the least. The whiners are free to whine on every thread they want to and I am free to let them know they suck in this one area at least.
