John Madden....soothsayer?

I was watching the game last night on DVR, and I rewound this three times and heard it, but couldn't quite make it out. In the INT return right before the half, as Arizona lines up under center, Madden comes on and says something along the lines of "They're gonna get picked right here", it is kind of low almost as if he was saying it to Al Michaels without intending the audience to hear it. Did anyone else pick up on that? Does anyone have the game recorded to go and confirm what he said?

I heard it and we did the same thing (kept rewinding it to hear what he said). I think he was saying how they were in the area of the field where an interception could easily happen.

maybe pro football is fixed and the play was scripted

I was in my car and heard the play on the radio, so I did not hear Madden's comment. If he used the word "picked," it is possible he thought the Cardinals were going to run a "pick" play, whereby one receiver basically sets a "pick" by rubbing off one of the DBs when two WRs lined up on the same side quickly cross with each other just past the line of scrimmage. That is a very popular goal line play. It's supposed to be illegal, but if it's run right, and the "picking" WR can just happen to run his route so that he impedes the DB without actually flagrantly blocking him, it can be very effective. Maybe the Cardinals were aligned in such a way with numerous WRs close to each other on one side, suggesting that a "pick" play was probably forthcoming.

I was waiting to see if Harrison (one of the network's mid-4th quarter MVP candidates) would win the award after JM suggested he should have been thrown out for repeatedly punking that Cardinal half his size in front of the whole world.

Now THAT would have been an eyesore for the NFL.

i remember watching it live and hearing madden say effectively "watch for a pick here at the bottom" referring to the 2 wrs at the bottom of the screen run a pick play.

I didn't hear it, and say what you will about Madden, but the guy's a football genius, so maybe he did call it.

I can't believe anyone would think that this game was remotely scripted. Madden made the comment based on the coverage and the aniticipation of a WR sreen/slant. Harrison made a great play off of a call from the coaching staff. Great play and an even better return.

As for what you saw on TV.....Harrison got flagged for good reason, but worse things happen in a game that go by the way side. Both teams got chippy at times, and no one knows what may or may not have happened that led to Harrison losing his cool. Either way, it was flagged, and that was that.

He is trying to talk about the Cards using the sidelines with 30 seconds left and instead talks about "The Cards need to take the lines which the Steelers will give the middle but the you know Cards have the lines to use and with no TO's the Steelers have to make sure the Cards middle isn't used without the Steelers using the lines"
