The Rueben Randle saga takes a late twist

Rueben Randle is one of the most sought-after prospects in the country.Hours before Rueben Randle's scheduled Signing Day announcement, things are starting to get interesting for the nation's top-rated wide receiver.

Our friend Glenn Guilbeau of Gannett Louisiana is reporting tonight that DeAngelo Benton, a former star at Randle's high school in Bastrop, La., has committed to sign tomorrow with LSU. That news didn't go over too well, however, with Randle's father Emmett, who reportedly told a Monroe radio station that he is concerned about the Tigers' depth at receiver.

And now, Randle himself is now saying he might not sign tomorrow.

"When I get home, I'm going to sit down with my family and talk about it. Then I'll decide whether I'm going to sign (Wednesday) or not," Randle told the Bastrop Enterprise before baseball practice today.

Randle is thought to be leaning to LSU. But he is also considering Alabama, Oklahoma and Auburn.

While the vast majority of prospects send letters of intent on National Signing Day, a wait is not unprecedented. Highly regarded QB Terrelle Pryor didn't commit on NSD last year before eventually committing to Ohio State more than a month later.

It's 50/50 right now between LSU/OU. Stoop's in-home with Randle went VERY well, and he's supposedly pointed out some depth chart issues regarding LSU.

The hot, hot rumor is that Rnadle wants to be a tiger, but his father has pointed out these "issues", and that his father may prefer him going to OU. Because of proximity to home, momma wants him to be a tiger.

We'll see, and there's no question I'll be holding my breathe 12:30 tomorrow.

I think it's more appropriate for the young man's father to have a lot more say in the matter than his high school coach.

A buddy was telling me about some stuff he read about Randle which surprised me. He was supposed to provide a link but I haven't gotten it yet.

Said RR is a real up-standing kid who volunteered to help displaced Katrina families and such, that he's not like his coach who exploited Katrina, and that he's not about himself as much as people are starting to believe. The interesting parts was that RR said he's not looking to get paid and that he's not looking to go to a school who thinks that is the way to get him. He said that as a junior he was offered an Escalade and didn't take it.

It kind of made me look at this a little differently.
