AJC reporting Oku will sign with Auburn

Tennessee has lost a handful of recruits to start National Signing Day. The Vols may be losing one more.

Tailback David Oku - the top-ranked all-purpose back in the country according to Rivals.com - seems destined for Auburn, sources have told govolsxtra.com. Oku has wavered on his commitment status for the past few weeks and appears to be leaning towards signing with the Tigers.

The loss of Oku would leave Tennessee with just one running back commitment, Milton’s Toney Williams.

Lord, let that be right!

man...if we got him....

I'll tell you what: even the bammer boards have been admiring the way we've closed today.

Naaaaaaaaaah...they didn't want him anyway. B)

:au::homer:

Oku was my one hope for a stellar commit. We have been talking to him for 2 years or more. He signs with us, he suddenly nay be starting for a Malzahn O. Wow...

Lord let it be...

I am noit as worried about the OL as some. Think the OL was poorly coached and prepped last year. They played much better as FR than Sophs. Lets hope that ends now.

Anyone hear Kiffin today? He said on the radio that he was happy because he "stole several recruits from our rivals"

Who says that when asked about their class?

I've heard a lot of his quotes and he is really upfront in what he says.

We already have 4 RB's - why would we have 5 RB's if he came on board? Everyone states McCalleb and Oku would see playing time somewhat early. Jacobs was supposed to be good. Gulley - I think he gets lost in the mix unless he moves to a different position. Aycock - who knows. People say he is supposed to be good, but jeez louiz.

With or without Oku, I just see too many RB's (not that it is a bad thing - but hard to keep them all happy). With Oku, yikes. If so, I bet Brandon Jacobs transfers to Southern Illnois

Just relaying what I've heard:

Jacobs may be moved to LB.

Gulley is likely going to be a slot WR.

Aycock will be a RB.

Gulley = slot receiver.

Jacobs = They are thinking MLB is a possibility, much bigger than whether he will play RB or not. If he does indeed end up at auburn there is still the chance of him playing LB.

Let me get this straight...if we get Oku we're looking at a depth chart at RB with..

Ben Tate

Mario Fannin

Eric Smith

Onterrio McCalebb

David Oku

Dontae Aycock

Brandon Jacobs

Anthony Gulley

Would be great, I could see us possibly redshirting 2-3 of them guys, now if only we can get some linemen and possibly a fullback to block for them (I still don't know why we haven't pursued more fullbacks, Malzahn does run the I every now and then and I'd think we'd need one).

I'm pretty sure we go a good one in john douglas last year. Eric Smith and Brandon Jacobs are pretty big too and could be used as fullbacks in certain situations.

Ben Tate - Junior

Mario Fannin - Junior

Eric Smith - Soph

Onterrio McCalebb

David Oku

Dontae Aycock

Brandon Jacobs - moving to LB

Anthony Gulley - slot WR

I don't think 6 RBs is too many and yes, someone in that group would likely redshirt.

Also remember, Malzahn mostly uses two-RB sets instead of one like Franklin and other spread influenced guys do.

Imagine Burns, Fannin, and Aycock in the backfield. Talk about a triple option... Each one is capable of running, passing, or pitching it to another with a similar skill set.
