AUisAll 2
I believe we all saw when the Bear was at Bama that winning football games AT ALL CO$T was more important to Bama than it was to AU. You have to remember that there a large part of 1 1/2 generations of bammers that get their significance in life from Bamas football team. With the Bear, REC and the new or old "Logan Youngs" back in business AU is recruiting with a 1/2 loaded gun at best. I believe the only way AU will compete in recruiting is to target 2-5 players in state and play the "Logan Young" game. We have proven for years that we aren't as willing to do the "Logan Young" to Bama's level so if you want to compete we should target a few and put all our egg$ in 1-5 baskets so to speak. autigeremt 7,551
Why should we care so much about the state of Alabama when we need to look outside the state to make Auburn a national power???? I'm not originally from Alabama, so I look at it a little differently. I also see programs like Texas, USC, etc. who have a mix of talent to go with their base recruits. Auburn shouldn't get caught up in that. Pat Dye was good at getting players from Georgia and other states, and it won several SEC titles. Just my .02 worth. AUisAll 2
I agree with you that we have to get quality out of state players. But from a perception standpoint it would be nice to have a few higher profile in state players each year. But IMO if we want to do this we have to roll in the mud with the pigs. I hope we don't do it but if we want to compete for high profile in state players every year we have to realize what it will take, IMO. autigeremt 7,551
I'd rather let the pigs roll......roll pigs roll. Auburn shouldn't get down to that level. PERIOD! buzzurd24 11
Please don't call me a bammer, that is too generic. But I'm sorry CNS & the REC have taken recruiting to a whole new monetary level in this state and CTT did not want to have any part of it. That is why he is gone. I expect to see some major bidding wars starting next recruiting cycle. AUman43 5
NO NO NO! that's exactly what the Turds would like is for us to get down to their level and get caught cheating. In the old days, every time Auburn began to compete with the bammers, we suddenly ended up on probation. There was SUPPOSED to be a gentlemen's agreement between Bryant and Coach Jordan to notify each other if they saw something wrong or illegal going on. It didn't work out that way and many think Bryant turned us in. In any event, they've always been considered a "sacred cow" of the NCAA until they were caught recently but keep in mind, they didn't have Bryant then either. These are the kind of times when we need to play it close to the vest, legal, and just increase our efforts for recruits by being more aggressive and postive. If that doesn't work, we don''t need them. Probation can destroy a program for years to come. If there is cheating going on, they WILL eventually get caught and penalized again. quietfan 233
Oh sure, let's pay some players! While we're at it, why not bribe some referees and buy some votes in the polls? Put the whole team on steroids...bug the visitor's locker room and dose their Gatorade on gameday. Seriously? I can't imagine any true follower of the Auburn Creed ever suggesting we cheat! I'd rather lose every game than win by cheating! Ultimately, it is only a game anyway. (...and I don't care what Saban and uat may or may not allegedly do.) I think history's greatest Recruiter said it best: "What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world, but loses his soul?" bird36 5
Cheating to win or paying off recruits is a bad idea for many reasons. I will not go into the moral reasons or the reasons that Auburn is supposed to be more than just football wins and losses, and for the sake of discussion I will leave the Creed out of it (are these not enough reasons to stay away from cheating. I guess not for everyone.) Let's say that bama is getting the top players in the state because they are cheating (I am not saying that but it is the point of the post). You want Auburn to pick 5 guys and cheat to bring them in. Well if bama is offering a black/red escalade and Auburn is offering a navy blue escalade then I don't see that as much of an advantage. Where does it end? Are we then going to offer an escalade and $100,000 a year.....? Also, think about what that will do to a team. If 5 guys are getting cars and 20 are not the team chemistry will be trashed. mec814 0
The one knock I had on CTT was trying to recruit close to home when 90% or more of the top players reside outside the state of Alabama. Add to that the fact Bamzo's and the REC control the livelihood of coaches and players kin in this state making it more difficult to recruit. It not only Saban as this network has been in place at least since H.B. AUisAll 2
I'm glad to see the comments that are here. I agree, I hope we don't stoop to "that" level. But we will continue to see what we've seen in state if we don't. That's ok with me. We have always been able to get good classes from out of state. And I would rather earn good classes than buy great classes. What is humorous is that the bammers here say it's because of work ethic. No doubt that plays a roll but 17 for 17(that they offered) out of the top 20 the last 2 years. It seems to me that AU would get the old acorn found by the blind hog occassionaly. If it looks like a duck and sounds like a duck, what is it? JLB1997 7
We need to build on the foundation that CTT built the right way. The Turds have always self destructed, and will again sooner or later. Nicky is paid $4 million to win ballgames at all costs. With NO buyout. He has no incintive not to skirt or break the rules. WHEN it catches up with him he can leave at any time with no penalty. UA will be left to pick up the pieces, again. AU1941 6
What do you do about all of the other teams in the SEC that have out-recruited Auburn for the past few years? What do you suggest AU do about recruiting against LSU, FLA, UGA, and now Ole Piss? Folks, it's not all about the bammers. AU has GOT to compete with the rest of the SEC as well.
