I think Ole Miss will be the "hot" pick for the West so Bama may not get fawned over as much

I do think Bama struggles a good bit but I am not sure they fall apart or anything. Their D may not be a Top 5 one but it will still be a solid group with the talent/Saban coachin

The thing I am not quite sure of with your post is the fact that AU had a coach that was delivering 8-9 wins a season on a consistent basis. I believe that Tubs was even doing better than that and somehow in one bizzare season got canned. Now, that was one of the most successful coaches in the SEC and AU did not allow a one season of mishaps. Therefore, i am still holding my judgment whether AU will give Chizik allot of leeway for experimentation to get this thing right. I agree that if Chizik wins 9-10, everyone would be happy but what if he does not and delivered a 5-6 wins, what would happen? that I am not quite sure of honestly. You may say it's still up because of Chizik's record at Iowa St, but I do not think AU will be flattered by that.

I just don't buy the hype with Ole Miss, losing Oher and Jerry is going to hurt that team a lot more then people want to say, they also lost several other good senior players. Alabama still has to be one of the favorites, LSU I think will make a good push as well and Arkansas/Auburn will be the surprise teams in the West. I think UGA will make a come back next year, UT will go down the toilet, and Florida will still be Florida, at the least it should be exciting to watch Auburn football again next year.

Look I wasn't happy AT ALL about TT leaving but now I AM happy he did, after seeing the time and effort that was put into recruting I am now glad we are starting over, TT's recruting had gone downhill and I always wondered why we weren't going after the big fish(the Staffords, Tebows) of the nation and I now think Chizik WILL go after the big ones and possible land them.

AU didn't go to a bowl game last year so the "perception" nationally, imo, is that AU won't challenge for the West and has less talent than LSU/Alabama and won't challenge next year

Add in how it seems EVERYONE says the Gene hire was terrible......

I only see AU winning perception wise IF Gene can win 8-9 games next year or more.

Now, I give you that IF Gene does win 8-10 games, the expectations will rise a LOT in 2010 perception wise but for 2009?

Did I see someone say that the writer was John Walters? If it's the same John Walters, he was a CFB writer for SI during the Dye scandal days. He was on campus a good bit and has enjoyed writing bad stuff (some of which we deserved) for years.
