Would it be worth it to be like Oklahoma under Switzer??

This is my first poll so if it gets messed up I will not be offended if you delete it.

I have to admit that I am pretty proud of us, so far no one has picked yes, says something about Auburn character, and I'd be willing to bet the results wouldn't be the same on some other boards.

Results might differ if your premise was cheat to win and not get caught.

It's very hard to change a culture. Wink. Wink.

Not meaning to bash, but why in the heck would anyone vote yes? I agree with OldNewby: "NOT NO, BUT HELL NO"

What exactly does moderate probation mean?

I mean, are we talking about paying players or smaller things like illegal phone calls, maybe some small contact at HS with players, etc...

If the probation wasn't too bad & school got to keep the SEC Titles, I would take it.

So, I said yes

Just win

And I was thinking 2 bammers had voted. :big:

"Would you cheat and win 3 SEC championships in 10 years if at the end of the decade you would get caught and suffer moderate probation?"

Ask the Bamars on this board...they would be better qualified to answer that question. :poke:

See, that's where I think some schools like OU (most recently with Romar,) SC (mrw Bush,) OSU (mrw Clarett,) uat (mrw Means) cheat because they know the risk/reward ratio is so low. It takes a lot of proof for the NCAA to come down on you unless somebody talks in public. The outright buffoonery in the Means case is what brought down uat and I just don't see that happening too often.

I voted no. AU can win without cheating up with the Joneses.

Nothing is ever worth cheating for! What's the reward in winning if you're stacking the deck and know it? You'll eventually get caught and pay a Hell of a price for it. So, NO, NO, NO!

This is exactly what I was also thinking. If everyone knew AU was cheating but no one could definitively prove it and you won championships, would you be alright continuing to cheat?

I think it would be hard to say no especially if you believe other programs (i.e. the terds) are doing it and gaining a competitive advantage.

Hell, USC won't even have any probation for the Bush stuff....give me a UGA NC if it means some "talk" but no "action" by the NCAA

As for Clarett, I thought OSU was going to get hit HARD by that but they never did. I am not sure I would want THAT coming down on the program but a NC is hard to turn down.

I openly admit that I want to win a LOT MORE than others and I have no problem bending rules to get it. I don't mind bending the rules though because I believe everyone does it.

I'd rather be dead last in the WAC than for us to cheat and win all the MNC's out there. Is a piece of glass worth your soul?

Would you cheat to win if the other side was doing it and your own kids could see what was happening? Can they cheat in school to get an A? Is that okay? Surely our own kids are better than a MNC.

Don't we already have enough programs like that out there?

Is a piece of glass worth your soul?

If someone's soul is dependent on the glass, that person may have more problems than just cheating.

Not worth my soul but short of that, I'm all in. Actually I would have a hard time being completely honest if I felt there were a significant number of other programs doing it.

In my opinion cheating is wrong and in direct conflict with the Auburn Creed.

Not to get too philosophical but consider this.

In the late 1980s a scholarship chemistry student @ Auburn could accept flights from his/her roommate's dad to hunting trips without any reprisal whatsoever. Our QB Jeff Burger did the same thing back then and AU received notice that the NCAA considered it a violation of NCAA rules. "Cheating". Dye sat Burger out for ONE play the next game.

In a Henry David Thereau sort of way (civil disobedience of BS rules & all that) how many would trade 3 SEC championships for THAT scenario w/ NCAA letters for minor violations of stupid rules?

It ain't cheatin' if you don't get caught.

If you ain't cheatin', you ain't trying.
