Chris Todd's Future?

BARNER

Recommended Posts

Well, he's only got one more year, so does it really matter what we speculate?

I'd say he and the other 5 QBs will get a fresh start. If he wins the job, he'll play. If not, he'll ride the pine until he gets his college degree.

For the 2010 season, we'll have this (potentially).

SR Kodi Burns

SO Barrett Trotter

SR Neil Caudle

RFr Tyrik Rollison

RFr Clint Moseley

FR Robert Cooper

Chris Todd can only hope for some success this year. There's no future on which to speculate.

We have too many QB's on scholarship.

I thought I read or heard that Robert Cooper was going to change positions. I could only hope so.

Moseley = Caudle. Neither will play a meaningful snap. I still don't see Trotter getting on the field either. But we'll see how that goes. I really have no clue - just predictions.

he's scary close.............can throw a football through a car wash without it getting wet.

As long as the car wash is off/completely dry because it may not make it through.....

You can never tell about these things. First of all, Kodi hasn't emerged yet as a seasoned, calm, poised QB. Secondly, Todd did a respectable job of running the offense although his shoulder limited what he used to be able to do. Yes, he relatively slow on foot, but never underestimate how valuable he could be IF he overcomes his surgery, stays healthy, and if (God forbid) Kodi were to go down. Yes, Caudle could play, but my gut tells me they would go with Todd and you certainly can't expect Trotter or either Rollison to come in a lead the team with the exerience they have, or lack of it.

Robert Cooper is going to be playing defense.

My bet is that Todd will either transfer to a D-1AA (still can't get into this FBS/FCS stuff) school within a few weeks, or he'll go through spring to see if he can win the starting job and transfer if he doesn't.

My prediction is, don't be surprised if Caudle or Trotter wins the job. Kodi's mechanics and accuracy are going to have to improve a lot for him to win it.

I don't see Rollison (if he qualifies) or Moseley coming in as true freshmen and beating those three out.

i dont see Todd transferring at this point in his career. he knows he's got no shot at the NFL, so he'll finish up his degree at a respectable university. He's the best QB we have at this point as far as potential. His injuries have limited him tremendously. If he stays healthy, I think he can and will win the starting job for us in the fall. There's not a QB on our roster that would've matched Graham Harrell toe-to-toe just two years ago. I say Todd stays and is our qb in 2009 IF he's healthy. If the shoulder doesn't hold, however, then who knows? Although, I expect Trotter to make some big strides over the spring, so we'll see.

Since there are new coaches: this spring all of the QB’s will have a fresh start. I’m hoping there is a real attempt to see what each has to offer the team, which can give this team the best chance to win. For some reason I’m thinking this staff will start spring drills with no preconceived ideas of who should or should not be the starter.

This is what I was thinking. We have too many QB on scholarship. I don't see Caudle playing as too many "insiders" told me he wouldn't when I asked why he wasn't.

Mike... Festus? Nice!

Lately I've been watching some old westerns. Last week it was Jack Elam. This week Festus. Jack & Festus were two of the better looking matinee idols. ;)

That scenario sounds good except I don't think Todd's shoulder is going to be able to pull it off. I agree that Todd at full strength is probably the best bet. I'm just not convinced he'll be ready. I hate it for the guy but I just don't see him recovering enough arm strength to do it. Another difference in Malzahn's offense from Franklin is that he likes to take shots downfield a lot more. That's going to require some arm strength Todd simply doesn't have and I'm not convinced he'll get back.

We've had some very good QBs not beat out other guys @ AU. Remember our 3d stringer in the '80s that transferred to TCU or some other TX school and promptly threw a (then Div. 1) NCAA record yds in a game? What was his name?

He's in my Intermdiate Accounting class and last week was the first time I saw him without a sling so he seems to be getting better. I can ask him about his thoughts on staying or not. I usually sit next to him and from talking to him he seems like he is going to stay and at least try out for the spot in the spring. I think he would like to graduate from Auburn.

Coach Tuberville talked yesterday about how tough shoulder injuries are to come back from. He mentioned all the weight lifting started at young ages, and the amount required to get/stay strong in college.

kids really are starting to lift weights way too early, imo. i dont see the need for a 6th and 7th grade kid to be able to bench press 200 lbs. I didn't start lifting seriously until the 10th grade and by the time I was a senior i could bench press more than our entire football team who started in the 7th grade, minus the linemen and our 2 RBs. I'd stress conditioning over anything at the younger ages, but for some reason coaches and parents have these kids plugging away in the weight room at 12 years or even younger. I just dont see how it gets you any further ahead, but maybe thats just me.

At my high school we started lifting weights in the 7th grade.

And trust me we condition ALOT during spring training and summer work outs.

Burns and Trotter can both throw the ball deep. Since Burns has no accuracy or the ability to read more than 2 receivers in the pocket I'd say it's Trotter. You would think Caudle could play considering he was ranked in the top 10 in the country his Sr. year in high school. The problem is we just don't know. It's all pointless if our OL doesn't block any better.

It is the lack of knowledge at that level to train the kids to workout properly. If proper/strict form is used injuries don't happen aside from genetics.

You can belabor the point on strength but genetics plays a part here as well. Strength and Conditioning at any age is important and lifting in 6,7,8th grades should be ok but egos get in the way and kids want to bench a house. I would use strict form less weight and reps and you would get better results as long as your intensity was there. This would in turn stave off injury again genetics and stupidity aside

I've heard that Trotter is a real sharp guy and a leader on the field. He may not be a super athlete but he gets the job done. I rememebr that Randy Campbell was like that. He wasn't a NFL type but he was efficient , a leader, and made very few mistakes. Trotter has a lot of expeience running a spread type of O. It will be a very interesting spring and A-Day. May the best QB win out.
