GAINESVILLE -- Florida wasn't the only school Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin took a shot at on Thursday. The Vols' coach also called into question the people at Pahokee Middle/High School.

While addressing a crowd of about 1,000 people at the Knoxville Convention Center, Kiffin said that receiving a faxed National Letter of Intent from Pahokee receiver Nu'Keese Richrdson on Wednesday was made difficult by the staff at Pahokee. Kiffin inferred that Pahokee High wanted to somehow prevent Richardson from signing with UT.

"You can't understand how hard this is to get done," Kiffin said. "[uT assistant coach] Eddie [Gran] had this set up at 7 o'clock in the morning. [Richardson's aunts] got the papers signed by the kid. They didn't go do it at the school because they knew somebody at the school was going to screw it up. The fax machine wouldn't work, or they would have changed the signatures, all the things that go on in Pahokee now. The aunts took it over to a junior high, found a fax machine that worked and faxed them over to us at 7 o'clock, and I kept it in a drawer till their 1 o'clock press conference."

Pahokee coach Blaze Thompson said on Thursday he was "confused" by Kiffin's comments. For starters, there isn't a junior high in Pahokee. Pahokee High School and Pahokee Middle are the same school. Thompson said that Kiffin must have been talking about Pahokee Elementary, where Richardson's aunt works.

Thompson said that he has been friends with the Richardson family for 20 years and also said, "I wouldn't think they would say something like that about me."

Thompson was troubled by Kiffin's apparent fear that Pahokee had the intentions to somehow sabotage Richardson's attempt to fax his National Letter of Intent to Tennessee.

"I'm just confused," Thompson said. "I don't know where he would get we screw up faxes or change signatures. No player here has ever been coerced by me or anyone else at the school to go to one school or the other. Pahokee is certainly not a Florida school. [uF cornerback] Janoris [Jenkins] was our first to go there in a long time. We would have been proud for [Richardson] to go to Florida but we're just as proud he went to Tennessee, although with these statements, I'm confused why [Kiffin] would bash a school he would get a commitment from."

I think we have a new moron in the league. Funny, but a moron.

The genius of Kiffin...

In just one day Kiffin has managed to provide video tape of himself:

Accusing another coach of "cheating" by breaking a rule that doesn't exist which put him in violation of league policy. This action brings into question his knowledge and integrity, plus it resulted in a very public smack-down by the commish.

Admitting that he encouraged a young man to lie. You think his competitors won't be asking future recruits if a coach asks you to lie wouldn't he lie to you.

Publicly expressing disappointment in the kids he just signed and suggesting they would be beat out by unknown future recruits. That's got to give about 19 or so sets of parents a real nice set of warm and fuzzies.

Dissing the high school coach at one of the biggest producers of talent in the state of FL. You think Coach Thompson might bring this up with other FL high school coaches?

And of course, dissing the grandmother of a recruit that seems to have been raised pretty well.

He must be a genius because nobody is foolish enough to pull all this crap in one day.

Kiffin go BOOM!

Kiffin is not ready for the full contact sport of recruiting in the :sec: and it is showing. CRG better go grab him by the hand and make sure he knows what he is up against.

Not working

I see it has been taken down. It was a story about Nu'Keese Richardson and his visit to UT. While Richardson was at a UT basketball game during his visit, Kiffin was with him. Richardson's coach was texting him and Kiffin was watching the conversation over his shoulder. Kiffin asked for Richardson's phone and texted the HS coach to tell him everything was great and his "decision is made", anc continued texting as if he were Richardson. Richardson admittedly thought it was odd behavior by Kiffin and shrugged it off. Richardson confirmed this account of the story in the interview as well. When I was reading it I was just lie "You have got to be kidding me.....". I'm not so sure Kiffin is all there, to be honest.

Where are the members of this board who were hoping to get Kiffin for our coach?

What's not to like about this guy? He's a hard charger.

I think he'll bring an intensity to UT that's been lacking in recent years.

Unless he steps off the deep end, I think he'll bumble his way to success at UT.

Kiffen is so out of his league.

Watching Kiffin's "performance" reminds me of the cute baby/kid with his blackberry in the E*Trade commercials. Facial expressions - body language. Hilarious.

It's a classic example of why one shouldn't pay too much attention to fan's opinions. There were a lot of posters here and other Auburn boards who had Kiffen high on their list of a potential replacement for Tubs.

I wouldn't say Kiffin was in my top 5 but I do remember thinking he'd be an intriguing prospect. Thought maybe his experience at USC would be a recruiting plus and that he'd have good offensive schemes. And then when after UT hired him and I heard his dad was going to coach defense I thought he was setting up quite the juggernaut.

But man am I glad we avoided that train wreck. His mouth moves at twice the speed of his brain.

I have never been a UT hater because my sister and douchebag-brother-in-law went there as well. But, I think Kiffin just doesn't get it in terms of what needs to be done as an SEC coach. How?

1) He has already alienated one High School coach and rumors of him pissing off Marlon Brown's HS HC as well. If he thinks he will get far doing the same things, he is going to be in for a shock as it can KILL programs if HS's are pushing their kids away from certain schools

2) I think he sounds very edgy and gets annoyed when someone stands up to him and does something he doesn't like. While that can be fine now, how will he react when he losses games and the UT fans aren't happy? I think we are in for a fight between a HC and his fan base

3) He removed Tennessee pictures around the stadium and inside the practice facilities and put in pictures of NFL players they have coached. To me, that is really just Kiffin's way of saying "I don't care about UT, I just want to win" and though that may be fine if he wins, when he losses, it will be thrown back in his face.

4) I am not sure his coaching hires were really that great. INCREDIBLE recruiters? Absolutely. Great position coaches? I am not exactly sold. I think Monte is one of the best D-minds in the NFL but I don't think he is there longer than 2 years AND I am not exactly sure whether his NFL success will translate to IMMEDIATELY success in college with 17-18 year olds. I also don't think Ed O is worth a **** coaching wise. You all say your Ex-RB coach was good so maybe that was a solid hire.

5) He seems like a baby to me the way he is calling out coaches. He isn't doing it Spurrier style with joking slights and all that. He is literally going public mocking coaches. He told a Radio interviewer he was going to get Georgia kids because UGA hadn't fallen asleep doing that. Then he tried to hire Garner from us. Who says that? Mocked Saban several times and called Meyer a cheater. I guess I just find these to be done by someone who feels he is still in HS.

The counter to all this is that no publicity is bad publicity (if recruits don't look too deep at why he is receiving the publicity).

That is the exact argument my douche-in-law says when arguing with me

Says people now are "listening to Tennessee" and it "Shows what a great class we brought in"

I personally don't get either....

No, it's neither one of those. They aren't "listening to Tennessee", they are just hearing the name more and more. And, it doesn't have anything to do with what kind of class they brought in.

I was playing devil's advocate by giving reasons this isn't all bad for TN.

Kiffin does show a lack of maturity. Not to mention a suprising ignorance of NCAA recruiting rules, despite being SC's recruiting coordinator while there. Or maybe it's just his ego getting in the way. He was heralded as the "Youngest NFL HC" and now has the "Youngest NCAA Div-1 Coach" to add to his resume. So far, he's got nothing on the credit side of the ledger to back up either of those labels: 5-15 in the pros & yet to coach a game as HC in college. Maturity & ignorance can be corrected and I'm guessing he'll learn his lessons from his recent gaffes. Now for the $64k question: how will he do as UT HC? No doubt he's in a tougher position at UT in the SEC from when he was at SC in the PAC-10. The only thing we can evaluate is how he did at SC, and it's pretty impressive: he had a 88% winning % as OC which was higer than Norm Chow's 83%; he was recruiting coordinator and brought in the #1 ranked class all 3 years he was there; he coached many receivers who ended up being drafted into the pros. XHC Fulmer always recruited well while at UT. The problem with Fulmer is he never seemed to be able to get his terrific assemblage of athletes to play consistently as a team. There are still plenty of blue chippers at UT -- e.g. Eric Berry is a major talent. I predict UT will continue to recruit well. They have Kiffin, Gran, Thompson & Orgeron on the staff. All have a reputation as premiere recruiters. UT is centrally located in the US and can draw equally well from the plains, midwest, coastal & southern states. In short, I think it's a mistake to write Kiffin off this early. All these predcitions of UF & uat running up the score on UT next season over Kiffin's recent public blunders are just a bit premature & wishful thinking. UT has way too much talent to stay down for very long. I think next year will be more like The Empire Strikes Back for UT.

Recruiting has never been a problem for UT though even in their "down ranked" years per Rivals/Scout, they brought in quite surprising solid classes

What has bothered UT for the last 5-6 years has just been poor coaching.

UT's OL and DL's have been as steady as anyone elses since Phil was there and their secondary was suspect in '06 but I chalked that up to piss poor O helping them out then anything

Kiffin bringing in talent wouldn't shock me nor would that scare me because I always felt Fulmer brought in consistently good talent

It is the fundamentals of coaching that Kiffin will have to bring to be successful
