TitanTiger 22,262
A few excerpts: AUBURN -- Trooper Taylor doesn't have to look far for inspiration at Auburn.Across the table usually will do. The Auburn assistant, hired away from Oklahoma State last month, said head coach Gene Chizik's enthusiastic personali ty isn't artificial. Taylor said the Tigers' figurehead is just as gung-ho behind closed doors. It's almost unsettling at times. "At every meeting, it's almost like: Guys, can we calm him down a little bit? I'm not kidding," Taylor said with a laugh. "He really believes this is the best job in America. He would have taken a skateboard back here. I've never heard a guy talk about a place like he does. You'd think we all died and went to heaven."... "I think the big deal for (Chizik) is -- and I know people think that it's corny -- but he truly believes that we still have a chance to change these kids' lives," Taylor said. "He really wants them to be better men and obviously better football players. He really tells us: 'If you don't know his class schedule, if you don't know his girlfriend's name, if you don't know what's going on in his life, then you're not going to be sitting around this table long.' PChamp119 96
I wonder if that will push any of his assistants out? I like that in Gene Chizik - but are they going to want to be with a guy who isn't "calm" all of the time. Or for a coach who is going to demand such personalization with the players. I think it is a good thing to have, don't get me wrong. But you know how some coaches are in it for $$$ or whatnot. I'm not saying anyone will leave, I just wonder if it could cause a problem in the future. But I think they are great characteristics to have for a coaching staff. Brother, I'm not trying to slam on you, but you have to be the most "glass half empty" guy I have ever seen. If this is true about Chizik, this is the environment that any assistant with half a brain would give an inch off his manhood to be a part of. PChamp119 96
Yea, because no coach in the world would ever want his job to truly be football only. I am 150% sure that no one on this staff, when they leave Auburn (because it is fact that they will leave at one point or another) for another job, that they will be like "Yea, it is great to be at a relaxed school where the coach lets me focus on the plays. I love working with the kids, but it is nice not to be quized by the head man either " Again - I like the attitude, it is just a set of feelings I could see not fitting for some people out there. Whether they are on our staff or not, I don't know. I'm just stating it is possible. OldNewby 27
Hey TT! Thanks for posting this. I'm fired up with Coach Chizik, Coach Taylor, Coach Roof, Coach Luper and other new assistants. I like the attitude that coaches need to invest in their players' lives off the field. I believe it leads to better chemistry on the field. WAR DAMN EAGLE YOU AUBURN TIGERS!!! AUman43 5
I really like his (Trooper's),attitude toward recruiting! He served notice that we WILL cover the state next year AND we will go after ANY athlete ANYWHERE if they have good character, talent, and good academics. He said look out! Ever think about that, PChump? Ever THINK, PChump? Yea, and Saban didn't? What happened to "his assistants won't be able to handle his way of treating assistants and not letting them talk to the media." Yea, only Chizik would think of these things. You also have to remember, interviews - people will say anything to get the job. They may believe in something. But when it comes down to it - being involved and doing is something completely different. And I've been a member of many teams.
