Proud Tiger 4,261
Scuttlebutt is that Scott Fountain will be hired as an off the field ass't. He is currently TE coach at ISU. He was retained by their new HC Paul Rhoads so I'm not sure why he would give that up for an off the field job. Proud Tiger 4,261
Ames, Iowa v/s Auburn, Alabama Pay will be pretty good as well. True but I would assume advancement in the coaching field is easier for an on the field coach. A lot of these guys get 'burned out' being on the road recruiting so much. I'm assuming that this guy will take Lolley's place as NFL liaison. Anyone got any info. better than my guessing? I think he is taking the position held by Andy Lutz under Tubs. I'm not sure what all Lutz's duties were but they didn't include NFL liaison. Its like Lutz's position but not exactly the same...the off-field positions will be a bit different than under the previous staff. Fountain is going to spear-head a lot of the on-campus recruiting and such...its a big position and its a pay raise over his job at Iowa State for those questioning why he'd make the move. My guess is that he'll be "Administrator of Game Day Popcorn." When not doing that, he'll be recruiting. AUman43 5
I noticed that he played for Tater Tot at Samford so he should know the state and the coaches well. Another recruiting asset IMO. Proud Tiger 4,261
It looks like they have now hired former player Ben Thomas to some TBD position. Ben Thomas' position is pretty similar to what Lolley's old position was. Apparently they are looking to add one more member to the support staff (most likely an Alabama HS coach) so look for that as well. AU Cav 0
I don't believe anyone outside of the named recruiters can recruit off-campus. When UT hired the former Syracuse OC as a GA, it was made clear that he couldn't recruit unless the kids were on campus so UT wasn't getting an advantage in recruiting. I've been wrong once or twice before though. Link to comment https://www.aufamily.com/topic/56436-new-off-the-field-coach/#findComment-582762 Share on other sites

Fountain will handle a lot of the on-campus recruiting efforts: setting up camps, planning official visits, identifying prospects, etc. He's not going to be going out and recruiting anyone in person. Although Sue Locklar holds the title of on-campus recruiting coordinator (she coordinates the Tiger Hosts and Hostesses), Lutz was more of the driving force. He's biggest 'gig' of the year was the summer camps. Which is nothing but on-campus recruiting. I don't believe anyone outside of the named recruiters can recruit off-campus. I've been wrong once or twice before though. Your right GA's can't recruit OFF campus. Off campus recruiters have to be listed on file with the NCAA and it can only be the ten coaches on staff (HC and nine position coaches) Link to comment https://www.aufamily.com/topic/56436-new-off-the-field-coach/#findComment-582767 Share on other sites

penguin149 397
The Mobile Press had his bio to include coaching at several south Alabama high schools, along with MTSU, among others. Maybe he has connections with high school coaches that would be advantageous. Yeah maybe he can just drop by, have a chance encounter, and get an instant commitment If he has these good relations, I wonder why they put him in a position that restricts him to on campus contact with recruits?
