Wait...so you think we have to make excuses in recruiting these days? What is Auburn, like 2-32 when going up against Saban for in state talent?

Believe it or not, until Auburn starts landing some of the guys we are signing, we don't see you as much of a threat. And obviously won't be making any pre-emptive excuses for you.

And that's not me being arrogant or whatever. It was the same way back when Fran was leaving and Shula was first taking over. Until we landed a few big timers, Bama was an also-ran for a lot of big time recruits.

Here's the issue, BG. That's not what we heard. All we heard was how great they were at recruiting and how easy it was to recruit to Alabama. Yeah, we thought it was strange, too. But, that's the reason that we never trust anything that any Bammer says (or anything an in-state paper says).

I was listening as well. I used to have respect for Barker but he's turned out to be a redneck just like the rest of them. He'd turn the show into a Bammer show if they'd let him. Even if what he said were true, I expect us to bring in some big name recruits from the surrounding states this year as well as from Oklahoma, Texas and perhaps Louisiana. Spin on Jay because I believe there's going to be some shocked bammers next year. First of all, Chizik and his staff are going to play hardball with Satan and he's not used to that. He had the state of Louisiana locked up and didn't even have to work at it. Alabama is not like that when we have notable coaches who are good at recruiting as well. Secondly, you may be surprised this coming year because you're not going to slip up on anyone again. Given last year when the entire conference was down, you did. Lastly, well stocked recruiting classes leave little room for immediate playing time which is what prospects now want. Satan can't assure them of that. Having said all this, things are gonna change at Bammer and I suspect you won't have much room to crow again. After all, anything less than a 13 win season is a major disappointment to your demanding redneck fans.

he was beyond reaching when he brought it up anyway. the only reason he was arguing was to talk negatively of what he said. they then found the clip of sabear doing almost the exact same thing and he said nothing of it. it was a non story and he tried to spin it into something negative about auburn. if i were del greco i'd have drop kicked him in the throat a long time ago. del greco never makes these finebaumish reaches to talk negatively about uat, he may disagree but he doesn't put words into peoples mouths like the typical bammerham media.

You guys want to blast Jay all day, but it's the homer in you that does so. I've heard him, on NUMEROUS occassions, defend Auburn and Al to callers. Jay isn't brash, he does VERY VERY little crowing after a W, and he's respectful to callers. You guys are talented at not hearing ANY of the things he says that are favorable to Auburn, and overly dissecting every tiny little thing he says that could go either way...and certainly never giving him the benefit of the doubt.

But I'm sure, none of you think Al EVER has a snippy remark to give, and is always just the nicest guy ever on the radio....cause he's an "Auburn man."

I have heard Al get "snippy" a few times on air, mostly in an effort to defend Auburn. Sometimes, I think he goes a little overboard, and it does make him sound like a homer, but not to the degree that Barker does. He may not come out and be an overt homer like many say, but he certainly doesn't hide his feelings. I've heard him make several "snide" remarks since I started listening almost 2 years ago. Same with Jim Dunaway.

Nope. Its your right to brag a little if you want. You beat us fair and square. Just remember not to brag too much, (this is an Auburn board)

I don't think anyone here truly believes that we're gonna wind up with the #1 ranked recruiting class in 2010. Any Auburn fan that drinks that much Kool-Aid is no better than a delusional Bammer. I'm sure you will disagree, but I don't think its unreasonable to think that, even with Saban in Tuscalooser, Auburn can end up with 4 or 5 of the top recruits in state just about every year with the current staff working as hard as they appear to be.

If things go really well, we COULD end up with a Top 5 class in 2010. I imagine a class anywhere from 6th or 7th to 9th or 10th, which would still be a great haul, as long as we end up with some top O-linemen and 5 or 6 good LBs. I don't think its unreasonable at all to assume that, on an even playing field, this staff can work just as hard and pull in the good recruits just like Saban and co.

I don't disagree that AN Auburn staff could end up with 4 or 5 top recruits in the state. But this staff hasn't even coached its first game at Auburn, is incredibly unproven, and everyone is talking about how they are going to take over.

I'd just like to see them at least coach a season, and get a season of full recruiting under their belt, before they are anointed as world beaters.

You could say the same thing about Saban and staff after the 2007 season. Sure, there were some proven coaches on that staff, but they went 6-6 in the regular season, and I don't think anyone truly expected that they would go 12-0 in 2008. But they still recruited very well in 2008 and finished with a top ranked class.

If the previous year's record should have any effect on a recruiting class, Chizik and co. should have finished 20th-25th or lower this year. As it stands, we ended up with a top 15 class. Granted, early playing time for some guys was definitely an incentive, and Auburn does sell itself in alot of ways as an SEC school, but the fact that this current staff was able to finish strong, even shorthanded two coaches, shows that they're gonna work extra hard to make sure Auburn gets its share of the best.

Not saying they're world beaters. Just saying that they should be pretty darn good at recruiting in the future. Now, on the field is a different matter, but we do have experienced coaches who have been there before, and we still have good talent on the Plains, especially on defense.
