RunInRed 19,658
Well, not exactly. But if you are using a new card-counting app at a Blackjack table, be warned... If you’re taking your iPhone to Las Vegas anytime soon, don’t be surprised if you get some extra eyes on you if you make a call from the Blackjack table. That’s because there is a new iPhone application that counts cards. By using a card-counting program, users can have a significant advantage over the house when it comes to playing Blackjack. making it illegal to use.The application even includes a stealth mode which turns the screen off so that it’s harder to detect. It was a fear of applications like this that originally led to the ban on cellular phones inside sports books. That ban has since been lifted. The public notice about the Gaming Control Board memorandum involving the iPhones application was reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. As someone who frequently counts cards and has read numerous books on how to play the system, I can tell you that you won't have time to reference an application on your iPhone while at the blackjack table. Additionally, it doesn't give you a "significant" advantage over the house. It increases your odds by a single digit percentage...that varies. And you also need a pretty significant bank roll to REALLY be able to take advantage of the slight advantage you get. RunInRed 19,658
I believe a lot of people were using this under the table in stealth mode. Even still, I thought most tables used continuous shuffling now, there by rendering card counting useless, no? And they run it all the way through --- or startover at the break ("yellow") card? After the card, they finish the current deal/game. Then they shuffle. But a 6 deck shoe isn't that hard to count. The fact that people THINK it's overwhelming is why nobody does it. You really can only get so far though counting by yourself.
