Brown to Big Orange?

Bryce Brown By Jeffery Stewart

Sportswriter

Date: Feb 17, 2009

Depending on your source, marquee tailback Bryce Brown is either itching to sign with Tennessee, totally unconvinced the Vols’ offensive system can operate as intended with the personnel available, or that he will bypass college football altogether, opting instead for the cold hard cash of the Canadian Football League.

If this is true, then I'd think it would help us with Oku. What think ye?

Hmm... I wonder if the NCAA has gotten wind of Kiffen's interview. The guys on Sports Call were saying that past punishment for mentioning recruits by name to the media was not allowing the school to sign the mentioned recruits.

Yeah but Kiffen has asked for a mulligan.

My question is, what has Tennessee got that both Brown and Oku were interested in? I know Oku decommitted, but he was interested at one time. We need to figure that out, so we can make sure we can stir up same that interest in Auburn in the future with other recruits(although we may be already!)

Did you see their ground game last year? It was AWFUL, and they had an NFL caliber back. They offer an empty stable and playing time. And, they have Eddie Gran. Despite the outcry by some, he's a dang good coach and recruiter.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Kiffen isn't exactly NEW to this recruiting thing is he? Wasn't he the recruiting coord. at USC under Carroll?

Good point. I should have thought of that.

I think Bryce Brown's personality would fit right in with the club that Kiffin & Co. are making. We do not want this guy, period. Oku would be a good get and if we did get him I'd have to say that this would be one of the best running back recruitment years for Auburn in a long time (Aycock, McCallebb, Washington, Jacobs, Oku).

See you have answered the question, Kiffen learned the ropes at USC. He thinks he can do whatever he wants and all will be fine. Sounds like what we hear from the Bammers doesn't it?

Coach Eddie Gran. Great recruiter and the college position coach of many NFL running backs. That's one guy we should have kept, IMHO.

As you know the campus’s of AU & UT are different and located in different settings. When I have been to games in Knoxville I have always realized why a lot of kids wanted to go to school there. Every time I have been to Auburn I know why many kids want to go to school there. AU is a special place but not all kids want the small town atmosphere.

Different strokes for different folks.

I am not knocking Eddie Gran in any way, but both of these kids were looking at Tennessee before Gran was hired.

imho....no thanks

Playing time....

:au::homer:

Gran is the best running back coach in America. If either of those two weren't at least considering it, I'd think they were both crazy. That said, I hope the good one comes to Auburn.

That may or may not be true, but I can't count the times I've seen our RB's running down the sideline with the ball tucked away under the INSIDE arm, which is a no-no. Also, backs are usually taught to blockas well and somee of our backs never seemed to learn to block or catch the ball. Finally, he had some darn good backs to play with during his tenure at Auburn. i.e. Cadillac, Ronnie, Tre, Jacobs, Irons, et al. JMO

Find one position coach on any team in the whole country that had a run like this: Avery (1st round), McAlister (1st round), Evans (3rd round), Johnson (2nd round), Williams (1st round), Brown (1st round), Irons (2nd round)... that would be every starter he had from 1995 to 2006. On top of that, he recruited every one of those guys except Evans. If he's not the best position coach in America, he's easily the most productive.

Eddie is the one coach i was hoping that Chizik would keep on staff. Eddie is a good person and a decent coach. After reading his book For Sydney i have come to respect the man a lot more. Auburn lost a good coach in Eddie and one hell of a man in my opinion. I hope no one ever has to go through what Eddie and his family went through.

if anyone would like one of the books i'm sure i could get you a signed copy. The books were $10 and the money goes to support the Foundation. It is a very touching story that will have a grown man/father like myself in tears. Phillip Marshall wrote the book.

I totally agree and also with mcqufcm's post above,. Anyone who doesn't thisk Gran is a great coach and teacher hasn't been to many FB practices. He had things in perspective and was #1 on the list of offense coaches I hoped would be retained.

I didn't have a #2 :P

Good point...I'm convinced!

I'm gonna be the unpopular guy here...

I think Eddie Gran is, by all accounts, an outstanding human being and a good running backs coach, but I don't think he's the best in the country. His ongoing love affair with Tre Smith drove me crazy. Ronnie never saw the field until Caddy got hurt. And Kenny didn't see much of the field until he popped off for 200 against LSU. I think Gran is a good coach who has had some incredible talent to help his case. Also, our special teams under his supervision, had me pulling my hair out half the time. Again, I think he's a good coach, but I have no reason to believe Luper couldn't be as successful or more so at Auburn.

No way....not even close...or there aren't any good RB coaches in America. Gran is above average (7 out of 10) at best.

Aubie, that's absurd. Moving on, WaDE you have a selective memory on at least one of those cases: Ronnie Brown. He started the first 3 or 4 games of 2001... he just didn't produce. Ronnie then got beat out by Casinious Moore (Chris Butler was getting carries as well) who then got injured. That's when Carnell became a starter in 2001. Carnell gets hurt and Casinious/Chris/Ronnie didn't produce one bit against Bama or UNC.

So we came into 2002 knowing full-well that Carnell was THE GUY. No one thought Ronnie was on his level. No one. So Ronnie didn't get another chance until Carnell got hurt against UF. To his credit, he was amazing the rest of the year, and the rest is history.

I fail to see how/why Gran is blamed for riding Carnell in 2002 when he was the only guy that had produced worth a darn the year before.

I don't know about anyone else, but I knew the minute Ronnie signed with us that he was legit. I'm just sayin'
