CORAL GABLES - The University of Miami no longer wants Bryce Brown.

A UM source said Tuesday night that the Hurricanes will not reissue a scholarship offer to Brown, a running back from Wichita, Kan., ranked as the nation's No. 1 prospect by Rivals.com. The national letter of intent UM faxed to Brown on Feb. 4 expires today. UM can send Brown another letter of intent, but will not.

Brian Butler, an advisor to Brown, disputed that the Hurricanes were no longer interested. Butler said Brown talked by phone with UM coach Randy Shannon on Tuesday afternoon to discuss an official visit the player plans on making to the UM campus starting March 3.

"Whoever is telling you that about Bryce, they might want them to check with coach Shannon," Butler said.

Told that Brown intends to make an official visit, the UM source, who has direct knowledge of the situation, replied, "That's not going to happen."

Brown, whose older brother Arthur is a sophomore linebacker at Miami, apparently upset the team's coaching staff after making comments to an Internet site that were viewed as derogatory toward new offensive coordinator Mark Whipple, who visited Brown in Omaha, Neb., days after he was hired last month.

Asked about his impressions of Whipple following the visit, Brown told Rivals that "something tells me that his philosophy, how he does things, is not really how I like."

With two other top running backs - Davenport's Mike James and Miami Killian's Lamar Miller - already part of the 2009 recruiting class, UM decided not to pursue Brown any longer.

"No one player is bigger than the University of Miami," the UM source said.

Brown orally committed to UM last year, but continues to consider his college options and said on his Web site - potentialplayers.com - that he would not sign until March 16.

Brown is still considering Auburn, Kansas State, Tennessee, Oregon and Southern California. His father, Arthur Brown Sr., told the Associated Press he would prefer Bryce play at Miami.

"Most definitely," Arthur Brown Sr. said. "That would be my ideal preference, for he and his brother to play together. That's always been my preference."

I got this off another message board. Wonder what it means to Auburn?

I have a feeling that we don't want him either. This guy has "milked" the PR game like nobody I've seen and seemed to be playing games with everybody. Again, there is no "I" in team. JMO

On that we agree 100%!

my response to this has always been T-E-A-M mix it up some.....T-A-M-E take away the T-A and you get M-E.

ME BABY, ALL ABOUT ME.....

i've got a funny vid of me making fun of the No I in team Nike commercial from a few years back, after kicking a mock championship field goal between the ladder rails in our condo while skiing in colorado. It's funny because i went to high school in Texas and Auburn wasnt on my radar for college at all...i said i was taking the championship back to Tuscaloosa --- all i knew about 'bama was what i'd seen on Forrest Gump. We all have a dark history somewhere along the way.. =)

I'd be glad to have Bryce on the team, but I wont put tears in the pillow if he doesn't sign here. We're going to be just fine either way.

Is it possible that Miami pulled the offer because they didn't like there chances?

Obviously, I don't KNOW, but I'd guess not. I think Miami got enough of his BS and closed the door on him.

Also, I had no idea that we were still in the running. I hope we get one of the two (Brown or Oku).

I suppose if one of them chooses us we'd take him but...like Miami, we've already signed enough good rb prospects for this year. Do we really want either one of these head cases? Seems like UT would be a good fit for both. Kiffin's a certified nut, so...(heh)

Brown's "advisor" sounds like an agent to me. I don't know Brown's background, and maybe this advisor is on the up and up and this is truly a good thing for Brown. I do know the guy is a GREAT back, but this advisory arrangement is untraditional. It is within the rules currently, but the fact this guy is profiting from Brown's recruitment seems to be approaching dangerous territory. Who knows, maybe this is a trend we'll see more of in the future.

Perhaps more notable are the words from Brown's coach regarding their 6-3 record this year and the "there is no I in team" concept mentioned above.

You know, I didn't know we were still in the running either. Brown has never visited, has he?

You know the fire has to be hot for Miami to pull away from it. Unless Shannon has changed the ways of folks down there I don't expect much has changed at Miami. Brown sounds like a trap player... one that I don't want to get burned by.

I heard on Finescum from the Auburn beat writer that on the weekend Rueben Randle was supposed to visit and he didn't show up, they said that Brown showed up on an "un" official visit...I don't know much about the Auburn Beat Writer so I don't know how reliable that is...

Brown is saying he will not announce his decision until March 16 as he has always planned. He also says Miami has not pulled their offer and in fact he talked at length last week to Randy Shannon and several Miami ass't coaches. He is not taking calls from other coaches. He is Miami bound and that's fine with me. He seems like a "me" guy rather than a team player.
