08 offense was bad but not the worst

There is no doubt the 2008 Auburn offense was horrible but it was far from being the worst. Taking the yearly totals from 1963-2008, I rated each AU offense based on yards per play, points per game and TD ratio. Based on those three categories, the 2008 Auburn offense was 39th over the past 46 seasons.

2008: 302.3 YPG / 17.3 PPG / 4.48 YPP / 42.6 TD ratio

1981: 285.3 YPG / 16.9 PPG / 4.13 YPP / 36.1 TD ratio

1965: 250.6 YPG / 15.0 PPG / 4.63 YPP / 31.4 TD ratio

1975: 276.4 YPG / 15.8 PPG / 4.54 YPP / 39.4 TD ratio

1998: 270.2 YPG / 15.1 PPG / 4.15 YPP / 42.1 TD ratio

1964: 265.9 YPG / 12.8 PPG / 4.46 YPP / 37.3 TD ratio

1973: 209.7 YPG / 12.3 PPG / 3.41 YPP / 37.6 TD ratio

1966: 222.1 YPG / 10.4 PPG / 3.92 YPP / 56.7 TD ratio

Based on the above data, seven other AU offenses were less efficient than the 2008 AU offense. The 1966 offensive unit averaged 222.1 yards per game, 10.4 points per game, 3.92 yards per play and scored an offensive TD every 56.7 plays, making the 1966 offense the worst in school history over the past 46 seasons.

But they didn't have three guys doing the "Hokey Pokey" on the side line before every play......

I was there for '98. Long year...I'd almost forgot.

I was there for '66. We didn't have any difference makers, no TD scorers, on offense. Bad year.

In ways, 2008 was worse because there were playmakers on this past year's team and they simply didn't get it done.

Let's see: there's Shug's last year (1975); Dye's first year (1981); tot's last year (1998) & xCTT's last year (2008.) Where does Barfield's last year (1980) rank?

Ditto. That was the year that made Gabe Gross decide to concentrate on baseball (smart move). He was a one-man show pretty much the entire year. He would take the snap and immediately start to run around for his life!

Same here. Loved the experience of going every weekend. Hated the outcome. Thank God it wasn't too long before we got to yell RUUUUUUUUUUUUUDDDDDDYYYYY!

2008 was the second worst for TD ratio which was a huge part of the problem in the close games where we couldn't score TDs after getting a few yards.
