1st Federal Attack on Guns Near

While reading (if you read it), keep in mind that ASSAULT is a much more emotionally charged, negatively connotative word than TACTICAL. Same goes with COP KILLER bullets. Also notice that drug cartels are using fully automatic weapons and explosives - which are both currently banned among most law abiding citizens.

Obama to Seek New Assault Weapons Ban

The Ban Expired in 2004 During the Bush Administration.

By JASON RYAN

WASHINGTON, Feb. 25, 2009

The Obama administration will seek to reinstate the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 during the Bush administration, Attorney General Eric Holder said today.

"As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few <_< gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons," Holder told reporters.

Holder said that putting the ban back in place would not only be a positive move by the United States, it would help cut down on the flow of guns going across the border into Mexico  , which is struggling with heavy violence among drug cartels along the border.

"I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum." Holder said at a news conference on the arrest of more than 700 people in a drug enforcement crackdown on Mexican drug cartels operating in the U.S.

Mexican government officials have complained that the availability of sophisticated guns from the United States have emboldened drug traffickers to fight over access routes into the U.S. :bs:

A State Department travel warning issued Feb. 20, 2009, reflected government concerns about the violence.

"Some recent Mexican army and police confrontations with drug cartels have resembled small-unit combat, with cartels employing automatic weapons and grenades," the warning said. "Large firefights have taken place in many towns and cities across Mexico, but most recently in northern Mexico, including Tijuana, Chihuahua City and Ciudad Juarez." (They're using weapons and explosives that are ALREADY banned - this is all a BS excuse to push through an agenda)

At the news conference today, Holder described his discussions with his Mexican counterpart about the recent spike in violence.

"I met yesterday with Attorney General Medina Mora of Mexico, and we discussed the unprecedented levels of violence his country is facing because of their enforcement efforts," he said.

Holder declined to offer any time frame for the reimplementation of the assault weapons ban, however.

"It's something, as I said, that the president talked about during the campaign," he said. "There are obviously a number of things that are -- that have been taking up a substantial amount of his time, and so, I'm not sure exactly what the sequencing will be."

In a brief interview with ABC News, Wayne LaPierre, president of the National Rifle Association, said, "I think there are a lot of Democrats on Capitol Hill cringing at Eric Holder's comments right now."

During his confirmation hearing, Holder told the Senate Judiciary Committee about other gun control measures the Obama administration may consider.

"I think closing the gun show loophole, the banning of cop-killer bullets and I also think that making the assault weapons ban permanent, would be something that would be permitted under Heller," Holder said, referring to the Supreme Court ruling in Washington, D.C. v. Heller, which asserted the Second Amendment as an individual's right to own a weapon.

The Assault Weapons Ban signed into law by President Clinton in 1994 banned 19 types of semi-automatic military-style guns and ammunition clips with more than 10 rounds.

"A semi-automatic is a quintessential self-defense firearm owned by American citizens in this country," LaPierre said. "I think it is clearly covered under Heller and it's clearly, I think, protected by the Constitution."

Most of the weapons purchased by the cartels come from overseas. This is just another way to control the free will of Americans. I don't have a problem with restrictions....but the left likes to over reach too much.

Are you calling Holder a liar?

If he's not I will. It's not the first nor will it be the last. Especially in this administration.

You knew this was coming didn’t you? Deep down you really knew Obama was lying during the campaign when he said he was against gun control, didn’t you?

PLEASE! Can someone from the left explain to me what an ASSAULT weapon actually is.

Here are some pictures. Personally I think the HK 12E Shorty would be excellent for rabbit hunting

Yeah, there are hundreds of Joe Blow U.S. citizens running around with rifles that cost 30k and randomly squeezing off thousands of .308 rounds that cost 75 cents a piece. And even fewer pointing those 30,000 dollar rifles at police.

Don't be fooled. This is nothing more then an excuse to gradually infringe upon the 2nd Amendment rights of the average citizen.

Absolutely right. It starts with something that a lot of people agree with, then they slip this in on you and somewhere down the road, you have lost it all, and you wonder how this happened. It's a slippery slope.

I agree that most people do not need an H&K MP5 on most days of the week. However, I am against them making it 100% impossible to get one legally.

I have an original Browning Auto-5 "Humpback" with a gold trigger that is the sweetest 12 gauge you will ever shoot. I have shot so many dove shells through that thing over the years, I could not even tell you. One time a buddy and I got into a mess of doves like you never saw, ran out of shells, went to buy more, came back and even more doves were out there and we shot everything we bought the 2nd time. We were calling everybody to come over there and help because we were standing in the middle of that field and doves were landing 20 feet from us there were just so many we could not keep them flying!!

You see, guns are like musical instruments. To people that don't have them or don't need them, they just do not get what the big deal is, why you need one, or why they are so expensive for the "good stuff." The day that everybody buys in to the "if I don't need it, nobody should have it" mindset is the day we are all doomed. Combine "Animal Farm" with "1984" and throw in a little "Brave New World" for good measure, and that is precisely what we will become.

And right on cue, the FOOL posts.

These guns are ALREADY banned by the Gun Control Act of 1934. Yes, 1934.

The only thing the Brady bull**** gun act really banned was 11 round or more clips. The idiots that called the guns on the list, "assault weapons", did so due to the APPEARANCE (**) of the weapon, not the functioning. Every lib that agreed with the Brady Bill was an idiot and remains an idiot today.

This country already bans "TRUE" assault weapons.

** The same gun could have five different stocks and 4 of them would be on the list but the other functioned the same and was not on the list.

I'm sure James Brady would agree with your assesment that only fools would agree with the Brady Bill under normal circumstances, but that part of his brain may be lying on a sidewalk.

An assualt weapon can be anything, arnold. A shotgun used to kill someone is an assault weapon. A knife is an assualt weapon.

The only problem with guns is the shooter. They don't point and shoot on their own.....at least not yet. :)

Yes. One guy gets popped by a deranged fool and the rest of the country should be disarmed. Typical librul foolishness. And James Brady has no idea what's happening. That witch of a wife of his is driving this.

The facts remain that the assault weapon ban in his name did NOTHING to prevent gun violence. In every instance of relaxed gun laws, crime has gone down. Thieves love to victimize, but are scared shitless of being a victim themselves.

If we could only get all libruls to move to a utopian city where no guns are allowed, they would have such peaceful and relaxed lives. Mind you, they would get robbed on every street corner, but they would have the satisfaction of knowing that the thief was breaking the law by having an unregistered weapon.

Put me down as someone who is against automatic assualt rifles. Semi-auto doesn't bother me, and I know that the majority of guns that are used in violence are not purchased legally. I also understand almost all "assault" weapons are used safely and correctly.

I personally own a 870 12 guage and a 30-06 so I am not for gun control. I am for some restrictions though. Also, I bought my gun at a gun show and would be pissed if they closed the "loop hole" which is BS in the first place.

In theory, all hand guns were banned in Washington D.C. until the recent Supreme Court decision. Completely, safe city to stand on any corner.

Privately owned firearms in the U.S.: Over 250 million, including upwards of 90 million handguns. The number rises by approximately 4 million annually. (BATFE)

• Gun owners in the U.S.: 70-80 million; 40-45 million own handguns

• American households that have firearms: Approx. 40-45%

• Hunters nationwide: 14.5 million (National Shooting Sports Foundation)

• NRA State Associations and Local Clubs: 10,000

• NRA Target Shooting Tournaments annually: 10,000

• NRA Certified Instructors and Law Enforcement Instructors: 62,000

http://www.nraila.org/Issues/FactSheets/Read.aspx?ID=83

Let me put this into perspective for you. There is somewhere around 350 million people in this country and enough firearms in this country to arm every man, women, and child.

By these gun control advocates thinking, the odds are that we will all be robbed weekly at gun point for the rest of our lives.......cause there are SOOOOOOOooo many guns out there.

Put me down as someone who is against automatic assualt rifles. Semi-auto doesn't bother me, and I know that the majority of guns that are used in violence are not purchased legally.

Did you not READ any of my posts? Automatic weapons in this country have been heavily monitored since 1934. Fully automatic weapons are illegal to possess without a permit. That permit is so hard to get and costs a good bit. I cannot think of ANY person that is permitted to have a fully automatic weapon committing a crime with it. The crimes committed with these weapons are by criminals in possession of an illegal weapon that was obtained through illegal means.

The assault weapons ban DID NOT include any fully automatic weapons due to the fact that these were already covered. The idiots that wrote it up played on your (and many others) ignorance on the subject. The assault weapons ban banned many semi-automatic weapons that LOOKED like a "bad" gun.

Take the SKS for example. It is a semi-automatic weapon that shoots 7.62 X 39mm ammo. The same ammo as the AK47. The SKS on the assault weapons ban list was listed many times. But you could still buy one in it's original form with a wood stock and a fixed 10 round magazine. Put any number of other "bad" looking stocks on it or modify it to accept detachable magazines, and you have a banned assault rifle.

But may folks out there believed this ban was taking the Uzis off the street, when in fact fully automatic Uzis are ALREADY illegal to own without a permit. We do not need another assault weapons ban. The current laws are good enough.

Don't be hoodwinked. If they get your semi-autos, then next they will want your multiple round guns. Don't think they will stop. There is no middle ground with these people. They live in a place(in their own head) where they think ALL guns are bad.

Wow, you hunt rabbits with a rifle? Funny, most people use a shotgun for that. Ignorance bleeds from your posts.

As to Brady - unfortunate, but he was not shot with an "assault weapon" - more ignorance.

I do happen to own an "assault weapon" and I really could care less what you or any other lib thinks about it, or whether it is "necessary. I also hold a concealed carry permit, and exercise my rights frequently. Sorry if you don't "agree" with that either. Actually, I have to admit, I'm not sorry - I kind of hope it pisses you off.

As to Mexico - who gives a flip what they think or care? They been so helpful to us with stemming the flow of illegal aliens and drugs into our borders, right?

If the .gov had any sense to them, the wall would just be the beginning - guys along that wall in watch towers with rifles would sure deter the flow of aliens in (and guns out).

The bottom line is - THER ARE ALREADY LAWS THAT ADDRESS THESE ISSUES. But instead of enforcing these laws they choose to further restrict the liberties of the law abiding citizens. Typical lib thought - Protect the criminals "rights" and attack the law abiding citizens.

What if the .gov felt you didn't "need" a computer at home because it can be used to break copyright laws or distribute child porn?

What if someone felt you didn't "need" a car because, after all, you could drive drunk, or run someone over?

Etc, etc, etc. Allowing the government to tell you what you should be allowed to do because of their personal beliefs is a DANGEROUS road to go down.

Why don't you pull up some statistics as to gun violence from lawful "assault weapon" owners or licensed CCW holders?

I don't mean to annoy you here, but if you are for restrictions to "assault weapons" because you don't "see the need" what makes you any different from the person that wants to ban your firearms??? Just a slight difference of opinion as to who "needs" what.

Sneaky Back Door Gun Grab in Obama Budget?

Keep an eye out for this when Barack Obama releases his budget blueprint later this week. What these Democrats can't accomplish in the open they'll always try to slip through the back door.

"A potential legislative gun rights battle looms today in Washington, D.C.," says Washington senior rights activist John M. Snyder.

"When President Obama submits his budget blueprint this week, reports indicate the proposal may include language designed specifically to repeal the Tiahrt Amendment," says Snyder, named the senior rights activist in Washington by Shotgun News.

"This repeal is an objective long sought by gun-grabbing politicians, the anti-gun Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence and other extremist groups," he added.

The Tiahrt Amendment, named for Rep. Todd Tiahrt of Kansas, is included in the annual appropriations for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives of the U.S. Justice Department. It prohibits gun-grabbing mayors and other repressive officials from obtaining federal gun trace data intended for use only for law enforcement purposes and using the data instead in harassing and costly third-party civil lawsuits against the firearms industry.

Snyder says, "Anti-right to self-defense extremists such as New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and others seek to undermine law-abiding Americans' gun rights by making it more and more difficult for them to obtain the firearms they want. Repeal of the Tiahrt Amendment would further their purposes. On Friday, The New York Times editorialized for repeal.

"America's 90 million law-abiding firearm owners oppose attempts to undermine their individual Second Amendment civil right to keep and bear arms. If Obama proposes repeal of Tiahrt, tens of millions of gun-owning voters can be expected to oppose it and make their opposition reverberate in the halls of Congress. There well may be a major congressional battle soon over the issue."

The Democrats have repeatedly lost on gun issues over the years, but they'll never give up trying to disarm the law-abiding public.

Some folks remember what happened the last time Democrats went all out against gun rights and the NRA. It wasn't pretty. Do they Democrats want to revisit that disaster?
