ziggyg 2
Looks like more than just Nutt is way over signing. Blakeney can sign them up too. "I checked with [compliance director] David [Wells], and there's no rule that says that we can't sign 80," Nutt said at that Signing Day press conference. "All I know is we have to have 25 ready to go in August ready and eligible." http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writ...ning/index.html Link to comment https://www.aufamily.com/topic/56630-over-signing/ Share on other sites

SouthLink02 8
There was an article today where the writer talked to a guy who signed with Arkansas late in Nutt's tenure there and they over-signed with the class and asked 1-2 kids to gray-shirt and they said NO since they qualified so they are now transferring because there is no room Wow, what a smack to their faces Come here....Please come! Oh, sorry...no room Link to comment https://www.aufamily.com/topic/56630-over-signing/#findComment-584442 Share on other sites
sogaaufan 27
I guess that's why this doesn't bother me too much. I know Nutt won't be able to get away with this forever. Once a few kids get the rug pulled out from under them by this guy, he should be pretty much done. I do hate it for the kids who will get thrown under the bus this year, however. SouthLink02 8
I personally hope the NCAA soon limits this I am not saying make it 25 but maybe 30 or something 37 is absolutely absurd and means that a few kids will be forced to not enroll when they CAN enroll if they wanted Link to comment https://www.aufamily.com/topic/56630-over-signing/#findComment-584632 Share on other sites

SouthLink02 8
It would be difficult though to find some sort of number since you aren't sure how many will qualify (for sure that is) and all that But still, SOME cap Link to comment https://www.aufamily.com/topic/56630-over-signing/#findComment-584784 Share on other sites
WarTiger 4,120
It would be difficult though to find some sort of number since you aren't sure how many will qualify (for sure that is) and all that But still, SOME cap I think these coaches have it down pretty well who will and won't qualify. I agree, 37 is ridiculous, and there should probably be a limit. I hate it for the kids that get into a situation like this. They get courted over and over again for years, then they sign in a class with 36 others, knowing they could easily be on the outside looking in. What happens to ones that are told we dont have room for you? Are they then free to transfer or look elsewhere without being penalized by the ncaa or having to sit out a year? SouthLink02 8
It's like what happened when Ron Zook was at UF I forgot who it was but UF over-signed by a few and 2 kids ended up having to PAY THEIR OWN first year due to Zook just saying "Opps, we have no room...sorry" and the kids tried transferring but UF said NO to several close schools EVEN AFTER THEY SCREWED THE KIDS Wish I had a link but it was years ago and all over the UGA forums....from the Palm Beach Express or whatever that paper was Link to comment https://www.aufamily.com/topic/56630-over-signing/#findComment-584972 Share on other sites

If they could have had scholarships at another school and UF kept them from going it would seem financial damages could be proved and should be paid. That's just my 2 cents. Not to mention, it kept these young qualifers from signing with another school/rival from the start. "Come to Gainesville." "Don't go to FSU/UGA/AU." Taking them off the immediate market with an oops, so sorry, "we can't add worth a s***" and don't care attitude. Sort of like stockpiling players, even if they never play a meaningful down. Now who would do something underhanded like that? Link to comment https://www.aufamily.com/topic/56630-over-signing/#findComment-585131 Share on other sites

What's the deal with uat? The guys on Sports Call mentioned they only have 11 slots to offer (and possibly fewer if the NCAA does anything). They signed, what, 28? Seems to me like they're in the same boat as UM, assuming that number is right; it just doesn't appear that way on the surface because people are focusing on the 25 limit. SouthLink02 8
Truthfully, I haven't the faintest clue what they could do. I think though that they are at the schools mercy after signing Link to comment https://www.aufamily.com/topic/56630-over-signing/#findComment-586380 Share on other sites

AU Cav 0
Clearly kids are being hurt here. When you get 26 or 27 in and have 25 slots, you can work it out... when you get 28 and have 11 slots or 37 and have 25, you are going beyond grey area and intentionally adversely affecting the future of a lot of kids. This is why all the schools outside of the south look down on our recruiting and there will be changes made if this keeps up.
