Albert Haynesworth a Redskin

Albert Haynesworth hit the free-agent jackpot Friday morning by reaching agreement on a seven-year, $100 million deal with the Washington Redskins that could end up maxing out at $115 million based on his performance, according to sources.

The deal, which was reached early Friday morning, includes $41 million in guarantees. During the first 13 months of the contract, Haynesworth will earn approximately $32 million.

A news conference is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET at Redskins Park.

Haynesworth was bombarded with opportunities when free agency started a minute after midnight ET Friday. More teams contacted him than expected. During the first hour, Haynesworth had at least six teams willing to give him more than $30 million in guarantees.

He and his agent, Chad Speck, spent several hours reviewing the opportunities before making a decision. The final choices came down to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team that had the most cap room in free agency, and the Redskins, the team that was the most aggressive.

The Tennessee Titans, the team Haynesworth played for in his first seven NFL seasons, never came close to signing him. A franchise player whose trip to the Pro Bowl prohibited the Titans from renewing the franchise tag in 2009, Haynesworth had hoped the Titans would offer him a deal that would have kept him off the free-agent market. That offer never materialized, even though the team kept talking to him until the start of free agency.

Haynesworth's deal with the Redskins is one of the richest in the history of the league.

Haynesworth led the Titans with a career-high 8½ sacks last season. He also had 75 tackles, 22 quarterback pressures, seven tackles for a loss and forced a team-high four fumbles.

John Clayton covers the NFL for ESPN.com. The Associated Press contributed to this story.

He won't even be in Washington for the 5th year nor will he stay healthy but for maybe 1-2 years

Only has played 16 games in a season 1 time in his career

The Redskins owner new that before he signed him. I guess the owner is Snyder or something like that. That guy seems to make a lot of not so smart decisions but then again he has the money to throw away.

Plus, wasn't Washington's D already solid last year? I know they lacked in sacks but I thought they were very good already and it was their O that they needed to upgrade

They lacked a pass rush because Jason Taylor was out most or all of the season. They did have a pretty good D.

I agree, that's why Tennessee let him go so easily. Word up here in Nashville is that Haynesworth really wanted to stay, but he and Tennessee parted ways nicely because the Titans wouldn't pony up that money, and he knew that he'd better leave and cash in that $$$ while he still could. I don't think one person up here believed for a minute that he would end up staying. In my opinion, this is EXTREMELY dangerous for the Skins, b/c he is super intense and therefore a very high risk for injury.

I would say the $$ was impressive for a guy with the history he has, but saying that he will make the interior Dline at Washington pretty strong.

At his best he is a monster, at his worst he is on the bench. He is still my favorite player in the NFL. He moves lines at will. I will miss seeing him play at Tennessee.

Jason Taylor was cut yesterday for refusal to participate in offseason workouts: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-r...p&type=lgns

Will be interesting to see if the Titans pursue tampering charges with the Redskins for getting this deal done within 6 hours of the FA signing period

Everyone does it per ESPN but technically the Skins could be found guilty

Jason Taylor hasn't been right since dancing with the stars.
